Maldini: “Modric would be perfect for Milan, but…”

By Oliver Fisher -

Paolo Maldini has denied that AC Milan have made contact over Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, but admitted he would be a ‘perfect’ addition.

The Rossoneri director spoke to the media during the unveiling of Rade Krunic and Theo Hernandez, and addressed persistent speculation that a move for the Croatia star could be on the cards.

“We never negotiated for Modric, but we’ve said it with Giampaolo: this club are looking for good young players and some experienced ones,” Maldini told the media.

“The growth of young players takes place through the presence of experienced ones. Modric would be perfect here, but we’ve never negotiated for him.

“We have needs in certain positions. Quality players are very expensive. Four midfielders have left, so we’ll have to intervene there.

“We negotiated for Bennacer and Veretout. After that, the transfer market is full of negotiations, opportunities and choices.

“Milan seem to be lagging behind, but the market ends on September 2. We’re not in a hurry. So many things have to fit together.

“If we can, we’ll bring in others that we think are great players.”
