CM: Maldini monitoring Stade Rennais winger who faces an uncertain future

By Oliver Fisher -

The transfer window has only been closed for three weeks, but Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are looking at attacking targets for the future, a report claims.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, the profiles sought by the scouting team have to be able to beat a man to create numerical superiority in attack, as Maldini and Massara have said in their diktat.

Essentially the Rossoneri management are looking for Rafael Leao-esque players, but with much more accessible price tags given the Portuguese winger is now worth a nine-figure sum. That means young talents with the prospects for growth are in the viewfinder.

Jeremy Doku of Stade Rennais is a player that Milan are admirers of. He has a contract expiring with the Ligue 1 club in 2025 and two years he was considered the ‘new Mané’ as per the report, with Les Rouges et Noirs spending €26m to snatch him from Anderlecht.

However, he has missed 34 games since he arrived in France and early in the current campaign he has only played 146 minutes between Ligue 1 and Europa League, but not just for injury reasons.

If Rennais boss Bruno Genesio’s trend does not change, in 2023 Doku will be put on the market and Milan have had his name in their notebook for some time. At the moment an attempt is not in the plans, but Maldini and Massara are monitoring the situation.

  1. I just remember him balling for Belgium, which tournament was that again? Was it the Euros? I remember the electricity in his feet and being so impressed. I remember wishing that Maldini could buy him and if that happens I’ll be too happy.
Mister Pioli would work wonders with someone like this, basically the Belgian version of Chiesa… let’s see.
