TMW: Maldini hoping to close deal soon and take a ‘Liverpool legend’ from Klopp

AC Milan are moving closer towards making Divock Origi their first new signing of the summer window and they would be taking one of Jurgen Klopp’s must trusted squad members, a report claims.

TMW writes how Origi is a player that Klopp has always esteemed highly even if he has regularly made him take a seat on the bench. Before the Champions League match they played against Genk back in 2019, a reporter was guilty of not having mentioned the Belgian forward among the best products of the club’s academy, with Klopp bringing this to his attention and branding Origi a ‘Liverpool legend’.

He arrived from Lille back in 2015 and it was the 2016-17 season that saw him start to show his potential as he scored 7 goals in 34 league appearances. To date he has 40 goals in 167 games overall, including a brace in the sensational comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League and a goal in the final against Spurs.

The 26-year-old could become a wild card of sorts for Milan as he is a natural centre-forward but can also occupy either wing. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara aimed want him on a free transfer shot and aim to close soon.
