Maldini praises UEFA’s new Football Board after participating: “An excellent initiative”

Paolo Maldini has praised UEFA for the creation of their new Football Board which will aim to assist the organisation in the governance of the game in Europe.

The UEFA Football Board held its inaugural meeting in Nyon at the headquarters of European football’s governing body. It included managers such as Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho plus former players like Maldini and Luis Figo.

It was approved by the UEFA Executive Committee to give independent opinions on football-related topics, with an example being the handball rule which has caused a lot of debate and discussion, especially since the introduction of VAR.

Maldini spoke to UEFA about the creation of the new board, which he believes is a positive step as it brings together some important minds when it comes to deciding the future of football, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“The Football Board is an excellent initiative by UEFA, which guarantees that the voice from the pitch is heard at an institutional level,” he said.

“It was great to see so many familiar faces and experiences gathered under one roof, openly discussing football’s most critical issues.

“Most of us were opponents on the field of play, but now we are here together to help and protect what is most precious to us: the game itself. I can’t wait for our next meeting.”
