Maldini rates Milan’s season and sends clear message to Cardinale

By Isak Möller -

After getting knocked out by Inter in the Champions League semi-final, AC Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini spoke to the media. What he said will probably raise some eyebrows among the Rossoneri fans.

Milan were outplayed by Inter over two legs and never really stood a chance. The most annoying thing, perhaps, is that the Rossoneri didn’t play up to their standard. As we have seen in the last few months, they looked subpar.

Speaking to Mediaset after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Paolo Maldini shared his thoughts on the exit from the competition. He stated that it can still be a ‘great’ season for Milan, but it hinges on UCL qualification.

His initial thoughts…

“The journey isn’t over. We have a duty to try and finish in the top four, then we also have to wait to see what will happen with Juventus. Reaching the semi-final was a great thing, even unexpected. Of course, if you get knocked out by Inter it hurts and makes the path seem less beautiful than it was… But we have to be lucid and honest: we reached this point unexpectedly.”

Is there a gap with Inter?

“The gap is real: it hasn’t been a question in the last 4 games against them. Today we played a little better, but it was compromised by the first leg. It’s Inter’s way of playing that bothers us and we’re unable to find countermeasures, then we have also struggled against teams less strong than Inter in the last period…”

How long until Leao’s renewal?

“We are at the final details, there are very small things to fix, but the thing will definitely be done.”

How would you rate Milan’s season with qualification for the next Champions League?

“It would be 8/10. We said it last year: we’re not yet structured to compete in two competitions, we told the press and our owners, they know it very well. It’s a path that has brought great sporting and economic results. There are many young players. Today there was an average difference of three years compared to Inter. It would be a great season with UCL qualification.”

Are Milan full after the Scudetto?

“No, you only have full bellies when you get certain results, when you win over and over. Being back at this level must be exploited, also economically by investing to stay in the top four and do well in Italy.”

On CDK…

“De Ketelaere is an example of a player who needs to grow, it’s normal. It would have been much easier and much less expensive for us to go for Dybala. But would it have been the right signing for our project? No. We know we have an idea and we have the will to build a young and talented team.”

Milan have just three games left in the league and are currently four points from the top four. Depending on the outcome of Juve’s whole situation, the Rossoneri could miss out on the Champions League and that would be devastating.

  1. He rates the season 8/10!?!
    Fire him tonight.
We are most likely to miss our minimum target but he rates the season 8/10. That means that we should keep Pioli, right?
If the season is 8/10, it means that the coach did an awesome job, right?
“It would have been much easier and much less expensive for us to go for Dybala.”
Look at that. That means that the owners weren’t against signing Dybala, it was yall boy that decided to splash 35 mil on an unproven, overvalued player, instead of signing Dybala.
    Easier and cheaper.
Just like it was his decision to sign Origi over Kolo Muani, also cheaper.
Just like it was his idea to chase Renato Sanches over Enzo Fernandez, who also was the cheaper option. He signed neither.
I hope Cardinale sends him a message as well.
    The message should be
    “You are fired”

      1. The only way will qualify for UCL it would be thanks to administrative technicality. Not because we deserve to be in the ucl next season.
With all the problems Juventus had this season and all of the injuries, they are still 8 points ahead of us on the table.
What most of you refuse to accept is that even if Juventus get points deducted from them they still might end up having more points than us at the end

        1. “With all the problems Juventus had this season and all of the injuries, they are still 8 points ahead of us on the table.” -You forgot all the kids they’re playing too. Thanks for aiding my argument. Doesn’t this imply that our issue is the coach? Juventus is points ahead, playing for long stretches with kids, without Chiesa, no Vlahovic, no Di Maria. SO if this team is devoid of their stars due to injury and selling veterans to play youngsters why are they still that good? BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALLEGRI. Say what you will about his tactics, he knows how to win. Pioli doesn’t.

    1. Why are you sooo against Maldini lol. You do realize that Gazidis didn’t offer M&M a contract until mid June making their jobs so much harder.
They had some clear cut targets and lost them as they didnt even know if they were still employed by the club.
Regardless, who would you buy with a budget of 45m? Maldini was clearly not happy with such a measly budget. Roma spent more. In fact they spent 41m just on Abraham and look at where they are. They did their best and not all signings work out. Thiaw worked pretty well tho eh?
Instead of slamming Madini go after Cardinale who didn’t spend crap in January when Maldini wanted Zaniolo. Roma sold him for 15m spread out 3 years. Did Maldini make mistakes? Yes he did but who doesn’t. It’s harder when you have a short string budget rather than millions to buy the best players out there. The ownership and Pioli are most to blame here.

      1. Exactly, not sure why he tries to blame it all on Paolo. Even with the so called missed calls this last off-season, which honestly except for Origi, I am not ready to say CDK is a flop yet give his age, Maldini’s track record is super positive. Maignan, Theo, Tonali, Tomori, Leao, Bennacer, Kalulu and even Thiaw they were all his signings and they are the future of this team. Expecting to sign 4 90Mil players is unrealistic for us yet some so called fans like him will probably cry is not enough even if that were to happen.

We won the league last year, we made it to the CL semis this year which are both huge overachivments for where we are in our build cycle yet people try to make this sound like a failure.

        1. Well said, Rubbinio!

However, I thin we need a new coach, such as De Zerbi, who knows how to develop and use creative players. Otherwise, CDK will continue his struggle under Pioli.

      2. Tell me which one of our competitors for top 4 spent more money than Milan?
Napoli spent as much as Milan, the rest spent less. So you can’t use the excuse measly 45 mil were not enough.
Only 1 of his signings produced somewhat partially, Thiaw, the other signings produced NOTHING
Don’t you think there was a reason why Gazidis didn’t offer Maldini and Massara new contracts? Elliott didn’t want them. At the end of the day this is business.
You can’t run their sporting department by continuously losing high value assets for free. Fanboys might look for excuses but bosses like accountability. Can you get the job done or not.
“Excuses are the refuge of a coward”
The new owner was forced to keep them because miraculously Milan won the scudetto and RedBird didn’t want to disturb their relationship with the fans from day 1 and let go of M&M, that’s why he only gave them 2 year contract.
The scudetto is the only reason why Maldini and Massara are still at Milan.
At the end, Maldini might survive this colossal failure but you will see that another component person will be hired this summer to be Maldini’s boss and rule or overrule Maldini’s every decision.

        1. So spending money doesn’t make a difference….

If I were to criticise Maldini & Co is they signed too many players and gave Pioli too big a squad.

Also love how you dismiss the Scudetto. It’s like something out of Life of Brian –

What has Maldini & Co ever done for us?

          Apart from winning the Scudetto.

What has Maldini & Co ever done for us?

Apart from securing Champions League qualification two seasons in a row after 10 seasons of failure.

What has Maldini & Co ever done for us?

Apart from helping us get to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

What has Maldini & Co ever done for us?

          Brought peace?

          1. What has Maldini and Co done for us?
Appart from sending us back into the Europa league where we were with Berlusconi and Galliani in their last season.
A full circle back to where we were before Elliott took over at the end of the banter era.
And the funny part is that based on the form Milan is in and the games left, even the Europa league might be at jeopardy. We haven’t won 2 games in a row since February, and we are about to play a direct competitor for top 4 in Juventus and Verona who is fighting to stay in the league.

Outside of Leao Maignan and Theo the quality of this squad is on the same level of the banter era squads.
And now Without UCL it will be hard to keep the only 3 good players we have.
Yes let’s praise failure and return to mediocrity

        2. Dude I don’t know why you’re so mad at Maldini. Are you a troll?
Ownership were being stupid with M&M after they won the scudetto!! Why would they do that? Why would they try to get rid of them right after they won something maybe 3-4 years earlier than expected.
As for other clubs Roma, Juve, Inter all spent more than we did. Lukaku’s loan move cost Inter 20m just by its self.
You were criticizing M&M about losing out on Dybala but you forgot Gazidis wouldn’t ratify the move since his salary was high and his older and wanted a long term contract.
My only bone to pick with Maldini is losing out on Gnoto and singing worthless Messias. Other than that I direct my angst at the real culprit here: Singer and Cardinale.

          1. “It would have been much easier and much less expensive for us to go for Dybala.”

Maldini words debunk all of your invented narratives about Gazidis, Elliott, RedBird, Santa Clause, Easter bunny and whoever else you want to shamelessly blame just to defend Maldini poor choices that led to this massive failure of a season.
He told on himself, after many agents and intermediaries were already pointing out his bad decisions throughout the year.
Inter might have paid 20 mil for lukaku but that it’s still less than 50 mil right? Mikhitarian, Accerbi, bellanova, asllani were all either free agents or on loan.

        3. – Don’t you think there was a reason why Gazidis didn’t offer Maldini and Massara new contracts? Elliott didn’t want them. At the end of the day this is business. –

for whatever the reason is, they still need Maldini, period!

and what is the motto of the so called bussinesman elliot & cardinale again?
          riiiight…. it’s sustainability!
wait, is that another word of no money?

redbird via their puppet scaroni blabbing we’re gonna do this, we’re gonna built that… lalala…
we don’t care, at least i don’t care.
what i want, or dare i say most of the Milan fans want is a competitive squad, both first and reserves team. and that needs money, for their transfers and/or salaries.
          that’s it.

most of us didn’t care from where you get the money from, whether is from shady hedgefunds, oil money, or else.
because this is football club, fans didn’t want to know that, lessons on economic, no!
we only expect good results on the pitch

          1. I agree with you Bob but Poli has something against Maldini. Yeah Maldini said that but like I said Gazidis said no. In fact it’s no secret that Gazidis/Singers and M&M were at loggerheads alot over spending.
I’m sure you’ve heard then phrase you gotta have money to make money.
Singer/Cardinale think that doesn’t apply to them. But at the end of the day there’s a reason good players are worth a certain amount of money. You can get lucky with youth and the unknown but that’s very rare.
And not every player works out no matter how much you spend.
Fact is M&M and Moncada have done a great job for the money they were given.
And again the ownership and Pioli is at more fault.

      3. Yes, maldini makes mistake. He is our big problem in milan, forget about building players with young players. We don’t need that milan we need mature and experience players.

        1. “We don’t need that milan we need mature and experience players.”

LOL. Never occurred that Milan don’t have the money for that kind of strategy?

    2. “That means that the owners weren’t against signing Dybala, it was yall boy that decided to splash 35 mil on an unproven, overvalued player, instead of signing Dybala.
      Easier and cheaper.”

LOL. You and your witch hunt… Easier? EASIER?!!! Yeah, the negotiations for CDK were simple and easy. Only took the whole summer. FFS, do you ever even think before you type?

  2. Inter is stronger than us in ALL departments from GK to attack. They brought on Gosens, Brozovic and Lukaku as subs. We punched above our weight this season and I’m happy we made semis.

    1. Exactly and that’s Maldini’s fault. His signings of Origi, CDK, Ballo-Toure, Bakayoko, Dest, Adli, Vranckx, have been a disaster for this team. None of those guys have contributed in any way. Not to mention he let 3 valuable players, Calhanoglu, Donnarumma and Kessie leave for free. Love Maldini the player, but I don’t think I trust him to make any more signings for this team.

      1. Yes.
Last summer not only that he spent 50 mil and we got nothing from those players except for a handful of good games by Thiaw, but he also weakened the team by losing Kessie, the most important player for Pioli’s system and also losing the team captain on a free transfers.
Maldini fanboys will say he won us the scudetto after 10 years and we got to the UCL semi final, he shouldn’t lose his job because of 1 bad mercato.
Well guess what, Pioli also won us the scudetto after 10 years and got us to the UCL semi final, why should he be fired after one bad season that was heavily influenced by the bad mercato by Maldini
Excuses for Maldini, but walking papers for Pioli for the same exact failures

        1. @Poli See comment to K. Applies to you too. Absolutely clueless. It’s like events didn’t happen and it’s just like we.let them free

          1. I wasn’t agreeing with you I was agreeing with @K.
You are stuck on inter and 50 mil not being enough for Milan to be on inters lever.
Tell me please was 50 mil not enough to be on Napoli and Lazio level?
Napoli also spent around 50 mil and Lazio spent nowhere near 50 mil.
So what is the excuse for 50 mil not being enough to be on Lazio level, please enlighten me since I’m clueless.
Roma spent nothing last summer besides signing Dybala on a free transfer and they are only 2 points behind us on the table. They are also with 1 foot in the Europa league final which will allow them to play in UCL next year if they win it.
Was 50 mil not enough to be better than Lazio and Roma who spent less than Milan and were weaker than us last season?
Can’t wait to read the new excuses

        2. I’m talking about the gap in quality between our subs and theirs. You brought up the 50m not me. 50m isn’t going to make that up is basically what I’m saying. Inter have spent more than their means over a period of time so that’s why their subs are better than ours and would take more than 50m and time to bridge that gap.

You went on one of your clueless rants about money spent. Lol. Like Lazio didnt spend only 4m less than us. “Nowhere near” LMAO. Get a clue bro. Even Napoli, Lazio and Roma don’t have a better team overall than Inters even with whatever they spent.. smh. That’s the point 🤦‍♂️

          1. You keep talking about the 50 mil. Imagine what the budget could have been had they got any money for Donnarumma or Calhanoglu, or Kessie, or even Romagnoli. It’s bad business letting valuable players leave for free. Period. If you are huge club with tons of money maybe that doesn’t matter, but for Milan it does.
ANd even the 50 mil should have strengthened this team if spent wisely. Instead the team is weaker after having spent the 50 mil on useless players. Should he even be allowed to spend any more money?

      2. Haha both you and Poli think I’m agreeing with you when indeed totally opposite. How is 50mil, last year’s budget, going to bring us to the level of Inter? They have lukaku and Gosens on the bench, combined that’s already the budget. Where’s the money for Correa, Skirinar, Brozovic all better than anything we have on the bench and also in the starting lineup. How is that Maldini’s fault? He’s not the owner and doesn’t dictate the amount for transfers. He’s given the budget not make it.

Also I’m tired of explaining Kessie, dollar and snake leaving. You guys always come up with that but fail to mention we saved a crap ton of money by signing Mike who is a good keeper. Snake backstabbed us and was about to sign until Eriksen got a heart attack, no one wanted to sign him. Kessie, we simply couldn’t afford him when Barca came sniffing. We didn’t want to pay 20m commission to his agent (same as Dollaruma) even when we kept meeting their demands everytime we met. We just couldn’t compete after a certain point..he makes 14m per season at Barca btw. What exactly do you want us to do? We could sell but that means no Scudetto, so best to win a trophy in the mean time.
You guys also fail to mention the whole back line and double pivots are Maldini’s work. The core of the team is Maldini’s. Sure the subs and CDK are trash but they don’t have much to work with. Not staying he doesn’t have his faults but what he has to work with he’s doing a great job

        1. @ Poli. Roma didn’t spend anything last summer!?!?. Why dont you do some research before you post. Roma spent 41m just on Abraham. He was on loan his first year. They spent another 11m on other players and paid Dybala’s agent fees and signing bonus.
Your misguided criticism of M&M is tiresome.
Does Pioli figure into this at all to you. Did Maldini choose the team today? Choose Calabria over Kalulu? Choose Messias over Salad? Have no plan to unlock inter other lobbing long balls to Giroud. Again, the owner and Pioli are most to blame here, no Maldini.

          1. @stiv. Poli hates M&M. Even if they did a good thing like renew contracts for the entire backline and double pivots you wouldn’t see him accepting that as a good thing because it goes against his narrative on Maldini.
You also.raised.a good.point though, at some point how does Pioli factor in with his choices and tactics

        2. Yu keep talking about the 50 mil.

          1. Poli brought up this 50m. Even if we did save the 50m that’s still not enough to buy whoever to have players the same quality as Inter’s bench much less starters. 50mnis not paying for Lukaku, Brozovic,Correa and De Vrij.
Also, I’m tired of repeating the Dollaruma, Kessie and Chalanoglu issues. It’s like u guys refuse to read or nitpick one spot in a comment and disregard all the other content.

    2. LOL. Maignan is one of the top goalies in Europe now and top in Italy. Our LB and LW are better than Inter’s. The difference is Inter is more mature, a whole yes they are better but to say they are better in every position is ridiculous and shows how little you value our players.

      1. Onana is a better goalie than Mike. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mike but I also watch other teams play and I also know stats. Onana is better than Mike in every category, clean sheets, goals conceded per game, save percentage, even xG and passing which we think Mike would be better at. But we also have a good keeper.

Sure we can say our LB and LW are better but Dumfries ain’t no slouch and he tends to get the better of Theo when we play them. Besides that gap in quality is less that the gap in quality innother areas. Snake is a vastly better player than Diaz for instance and they’re better equipped in the forward and Right side which is basictthe rest of the team

        1. Don’t be ridiculous. You’re not a MIlan fan if you say something that stupid. Onana is not even better than an old Handanovic. You are clueless about football if you think that clown in the Inter goal is better than probably our most talented keeper ever.

          1. @sanerossonero bro the stats literally say that Onana is better. You want me to invent stats for the sake of “our Mike is better”? Onana is the reason Handanovic is on the bench lol. Onana has better footwork than Mike if you bothered to watch him play even if Mike’s footwork is great. Imo he’s the best in the world at passing late. The degree of awareness he has is unrivalled when it comes to passing late ie pressured passing. Plus he got more clean sheets more shots saved percentage. Not only in Serie A but he’s been the best goalie in the UCL. Stats don’t lie bro. Take off the red and black glasses for a sec and realize objectively there are other players that are better than some of ours. I’m clueless about football? Bro check yourself! It’s this attitude that we think our players are vastly better than Inter’s is why we see this defeat as something bigger than it is.

And I’m saying this, as I’ve said before, even as a huge fan of Mike.

        2. “Onana is better than Mike in every category, clean sheets, goals conceded per game, save percentage, even xG and passing which we think Mike would be better at.”

Most of the stats say more about the team than the GK’s abilities though.

          1. Well true they may also have a better team but if you look at goals conceded us and Inter are almost the same. And with Onana in goal, Inter concedes only 0.9 per game and on average every 124 minutes which is incredible and 8 clean sheets (also 8 in the UCL which is the best in the UCL this season.and a record for Inter) . With Handanovic it shoots up to 1.6 goals conceded. Therefore, it’s clear Onana is the difference maker that’s not attributable to just team play

    3. They had 2 former players of ours who if I remember correctly were written off by fans as not being at “Milan level”….,

  3. @Poli you are one of those idio*s who were thinking he knows everything about football after playing FM in your basement.

  4. Lol so he didn’t sign Dyabala because he was older, but in the meantime he sign 36 year old Giroud, 40 year old Ibra, and now wants 34 year old Arnautovic. Btw still claiming that not signing Dyabala was the right choise whyle Dyabala is a one man army at Roma with 16 goals and 8 assists just shows you that Maldini is not much diferent than Pioli. He doesn’t want to admit and take responsobility for his mistakes. Btw this Inter team that keeps beating us is made with less budget and mainly from free players.

    1. Dybala probably wanted on longer period of time higher fee, and our old players are only on 1 year contract.

That’s big difference in gross altogether especially if player got injured.

      1. Messia is older than Dyabala and he got a longer contract. Origi is 2 years younger then Dyabala and he is on a longer contract as well (same sallary too). Dyabala is not in retirement age unlike Giroud and Ibra. This has nothing to do we the contract, it is a choice made by Maldini as he himself states in the interview.

        1. Dybala is on 6.5 million euros, Roma had an agreement that if he stayed healthy and performed, they would extend him with a bonus for the rest of the contract. Our ownership refused to sanction Kesisie’s requested 6.5 million, no way they were handing that to Dybala either. There are also agent fees and signing bonuses that won’t be mentionned. Milan knew they couldn’t retain him if he performed. Ownership would never let a player with a history injury like him be the highest paid player on the team.

          1. “It would have been much easier and much less expensive for us to go for Dybala.”
            Maldini’s own words.
But keep coming up with false narratives to excuse Maldini.

  5. Season would be 10/10 if we gains 10 more points. But Maldini is correct it is 08/10.

Now if juve mafia is banned, we must win 2 games and 1 draw to reach 04th position to have 10/10. If now owners fault not to invest properly.

But it will not be devastating not to reach Champions League, because Milan earned twice this year from champions league.

  6. If you dislike Maldini, then please leave this website. Please never post on these message boards. You don’t understand how football works; and you’re NOT a true Milan fan. Go away idiots.

  7. Dybala would’ve been a short term “fix” and not long term (less expensive for this year) but the guy is never ever healthy. Maldini sees something in CDK and he needs to develop. He was patient with Leao — remember Leao didn’t do much of anything his first season either and now he’s the reigning MVP of Serie A.
Look at the people Maldini has wanted — Saliba and Botman — who both turned out to be OUTSTANDING for each of Arsenal and Newcastle this year. We just didn’t have the money to compete with the Premier League teams to get those 2 guys. But obviously Maldini knows what he’s talking about when scouting talent — better than I do and better than any of you idiots on this website criticizing Paolo.

  8. Well any fools (brutas) that wants to criticizes Maldini. You having won anything so you have no right nor voice, so get lost. But pioli isn’t the right coach.
If he be proactive he wood have put another goal keeper, give more chances to Adlib, D Maldini last year. The right coach for AC Milan is Clarence Seedorf, Roberto D Z, etc.
Antonio Conté isn’t the right coach also. We need an x Milan player or a Milan DNA. Someones who is hungry to win the champions league again & over again.

  9. @Poli I agree Maldini had a bad offseason last year but really it’s not all on him and your own bias (not sure what Maldini did to you) is very apparent. Every point you make last context and perspective. Fans like you would be more comfortable following a team like Chelsea. There is no way Maldini’s record as a director warrants his termination. Now if we are talking Pioli there’s a point to be made…

  10. Well I think everyone has tried the best. But, we need to fix our target for the next season. If choose serie A, and want to model like Atalanta, so grow the superb youth academy, and find cheap but prospectfull player.

But if we want Champions League (if we make it through again this year), so buy 2-3 player with CL qualified, and hire a CL experienced coach either

  11. Well he say the truth. Signing dybala for 3-4 years more cheaper than buy CDK and give him 3-4 years contract. But he is not willing to say signing origi more cheaper than kolo muani. If he dont want to sign dybala because his age , why he give florenzi & junior messias 3 years contract ( include when in loan to AC Milan ) , give kjaer 2 years contract . We all know junior, florenzi, kjaer age are 30+++ while dybala 28/29. Remember the failure of giampaolo? Thats because maldini dont want to buy his player request like joachim andersen & denis praet ( both only 20m euro) , he choose giampaolo as coach but ignore giampaolo request and in result big failure then he choose pioli that in the end finish on europa league spot (because ibra effect) . Now pioli request amrabat & berardi but our legend maldini buy adili 10m euro & CDK 35m euro , just amrabat enough and have same price with CDK + adili. Amrabat strong CMF / DMF balanced on atack and defend should be far better than brahim play last night in same position. I hope ( just personal hope ) if we failed secure CL slot next season that RedBird fired maldini & pioli but keep them if AC Milan play in CL next season ( of course start to hear coach request player next season)

    1. Maldini badly wanted Hakim Ziyech. Same age as Dybala. Is this not a serving up the same argument about the project? Maldini is very selective with his arguments. We need players with impact and Dybala would have made the difference. He was for free vs a fee for Ziyech…

  12. @Pioli your hilarious and full of BS. Listen to what Maldini said. We need ownership to invest more $$$$$$$$. Put away your Maldini hate you sound like those Leao haters who are now eating their words. No matter who is director you cannot win consistently and take the next leap in CL with that budget. Period.

  13. @Pioli your hilarious. Listen to what Maldini said. We need ownership to invest more $$$$$$$$. Put away your Maldini hate you sound like those Leao haters who are now eating their words. No matter who is director you cannot win consistently and take the next leap in CL with that budget. Period.

  14. Inter had 3 first choice players that started the game against Sassuolo and they score 4goals in that game. The rest were subs. That’s what we call depth. Something we sorely lack when rotating. We remove Leao and Giroud and lose most of our games against lowly teams. How do we compete with them. Let’s start there before we can stake our claim at the same table as Inter. We have fallen far behind, Redbird needs to invest.

  15. many of you have not understood what means missing UCL furthermore i am not sure if you want really the best for Milan? The baka and renato sanches nightmare up to Origi and Dest brought us out of UCL – still cannot believe that we got no RW after scudetto – 3 wins in last 12 games and the Management is untouched? just wait a few days guys u will see after Juve loss

  16. Some of you fans are pathetic
Look at were we were some years ago
We were 8 and had no hope
You should be happy we are fighting for top 4 and reached the semi
Step by step day by day
    Forza milan!!!

  17. …aaand we are back to where we were 3 years ago. No CL. Still no stadium on the horizon. Mediocre coach who has no clue about attack, rotation, subs, tailoring tactics for each opponent etc. Turns out the real reasons behind the Scudetto were: Zlatan, Kessie, and a very poor season by all other major clubs. The reason behind making it to the semis of the CL: weak group, very poor Spurs. Our only true achievement this season is beating Napoli but that required lots of luck too.

    1. The real reason behind the scudetto were ibrahimovic hhhh what ibrahimovic did for milan other than getting his wages?

      1. 8 goals 3 assists, many of them in crucial moments like at Lazio. Also leadership which only he and Kessie provided. Another key factor was Giroud who is now too old to play with the same intensity and frequency, but no proper replacement was brought in for either of them. Pioli was lucky last season, but now he’s exposed for the mediocre coach he is. Look at his resume, it’s all failures.

  18. This time I don’t understand and can’t agree with Maldini. His argument about Dybala and CDK doesn’t make sense. Dybala isn’t even older than many of our players. Moreover, there is Brahim. A rooster combination of Brahim and Dybala would have made more sense from many aspects.

  19. See I have suggested earlier to me Pioli is a Good coach the formation is perfect for AC Milan maignan is far better than Onana what AC Milan need is solid signing this area affect AC Milan alot it is clear no leao sub messias, origi CDK all were not up to standard if Milan had somebody like Noah Okafor to be in place of leao, and finisher to replace geroud when he is tired and somebody like ritsu Doan to replace Brahim diaz with bennercer and tonali holding the midfielder inter could have see it hot and difficult because Milan will not only win we will even ridicule them the fact is that Cardinale should break the bank for Milan transfer that is the solutions to Milan problem if all the measures is taken Milan will be nothing but impressive.

  20. Not signing Dybala was a huge mistake. Not only is he a world class player but we could have spent the CDK money on a striker or RW.
Also we had Adli and Pobega coming in.

Why on earth did we sign Dest (4th choice rb behind Calabria, Kalulu, Florenzi and even Alexis)? While we had no back up for Theo!

Lots of mistakes made. Starting with the owners.
They held up the mercato last summer which made life difficult for M&M, they in turn made some poor signings and Pioli has failed to integrate/utilise the players he was given.

All in all there is plenty of blame to go around with no one person the culprit. It’s been a team effort to mess things up so badly.

Therefore I think we should give every one a fresh start this summer.
Owners need to show ambition with spending, M&M need to pull off some great deals and Pioli needs to start using young players (including primavera).
The players will get some long needed rest and need to return hungry.

Let’s pray for top 4 to save the project!

  21. I have to say it’s pathetic to see so many fans supporting Maldini but asking Pioli to be sacked when Maldini is responsible for the failure of the team.
It’s only Milan fans in the world that worry about the finances & salaries of their players &club while other fans only cares about result on the pitch & then we go hating the players who leaves because we refused to pay them what they deserved.
I think many of you here miss the point, how can Paolo Maldini say that he built a team that is incapable of playing in 2 competitions when you clearly know that as champions, you had to play supercoppa, champions league, coppa italia & league yet you weakened the team by allowing our best players go for free & brought in players that wouldn’t get a starting place at Monza to play for Milan and throughout the season, you kept lying that this team was stronger & can go all the way in all competitions & made everyone who said the team was weak look like a fool. Pioli did the impossible winning the league with this team & reaching the semi final & his only sin is his loyalty to the management because no coach can go anywhere with these kind of dead players & a coach like conte or mourinho would have dragged you out for this nonsense instead of covering for your ass & taking the blame. Yes the owners are responsible for this shit too but no other teams in serieA spent alot because there were so many quality players for free or loan this season that Maldini could have brought in even in January when the team was dying, this fucker refused to bring in anyone… Dybala doesn’t fit the project but you have Messiahs, Giroud at 37, Kjaer & so on.
The same Maldini that promised the fans that he wouldn’t sign unless the new owners assures him of investment but that turned out to be a lie too because he just used the fans to get a more lucrative contract for himself. I love Maldini the footballer but Maldini the director is a failure and very incompetent should be fired ASAP!!!

    1. “we go hating the players who leaves because we refused to pay them what they deserved.”

LOL. I’ve yet to witness a player who we didn’t pay what they deserved. Gigio and his delirious salary & signing bonuses? F.U! Calha? LOL, never. Kessie? We actually matched the demand but he and his agent got a fatter signing bonus elsewhere and surely wasn’t worth the “premium”. Romagnoli? So we should have paid a backup of a backup 3-4M€ per year? Anyone here actually think he “deserved” that in Milan? Yeah, I didn’t think so…

    2. “Pioli did the impossible winning the league with this team & reaching the semi final & his only sin is his loyalty to the management”

Only sin? Clearly you haven’t followed how we were playing this season or how Pioli has managed the team against such glorious team as Spezia, Cremonese, Salernitana etc.
