AC Milan’s failure to qualify for European competitions will have repercussions, potentially including the future of Tijjani Reijnders.
After a disastrous 2024-25 campaign, some star players may be forced to consider their future at Milan. Even though Reijnders renewed his contract recently until 2030, the interest from some top clubs around Europe could prove to be tempting.
Reijnders: Man City vs. Real Madrid?
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) confirms that with no UEFA competition to look ahead to in 2025-26, the Rossoneri will most likely be forced to raise money to compensate for the loss of revenues.
The main candidate in terms of big sales is Reijnders, Pep Guardiola’s number one target for the summer window. Given Kevin De Bruyne’s farewell from Manchester City, the Premier League side could accelerate for the Dutchman.
A first offer is expected in the next few days but Milan have already been clear: under €70m there won’t even be any talks. Thus, it remains to be seen to what extent the Citizens are willing to test the Rossoneri’s resolve.
However, the paper adds to watch out for Real Madrid, as Los Blancos have asked for information on the former AZ Alkmaar man. It is possible that an ‘international auction’ for Reijnders will break out, which would allow Milan to generate more money.
Money, money, money. The thing that matters most. How wonderful. Our banker, ehm, CEO will be thrilled.
“We don’t sell out of necessity, we sell out of opportunism. If we remain disciplined, there will always be counterparties on the market who will allow extraordinary returns for the players.”
There isn’t a scenario in which selling Reijnders makes any sense. However the only way to process that impending (seemingly) sale is if there’s a competent SD hired who knows how to build a team and that SD would be in charge of using the income from that sale.
An ambitious owner would issue hands off warning and build around these players. But not here. It’s all about the Benjamins with these Wall Street slimeballs.
if,
and this is a big if,
if Milan owner /management have a bit of decency and wanting to win the hearts of fans who have been devastated by the current state of the club, they will not sell Reijnders next season no matter how much money the sale will generate.
but if the opposite happens, then in the eyes of the fans, the club owner and his management are finished, with nothing left anymore
“but if the opposite happens”
If? Scaroni has rented the moving van already and cleared his calendar so he can help Tijj move. It’s already been decided but the destination is unclear.
If he leaves we’re cooked, looking at their track record of transfers there is an 80% chance that they won’t find a proper replacement, we were lucky puli and tijji worked out cause honestly of all the players bought by Redbird only those two worked
I’m sure there is a suitable 20-something lad with USA-citizenship somewhere out there that wouldn’t cost us more than 10-20M€. That should keep eeeeeverybody happy, right?
