Report: Man Utd weighing up player-plus-cash bid for €45m Milan midfielder

By Oliver Fisher -

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is interested in making a move for AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer, a report claims.

United are in the market for a new midfielder with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic among the departures already confirmed, and as reported by Calciomercatoweb (via TEAMtalk), United are readying a move to sign Bennacer.

The 24-year-old joined from Empoli during the summer of 2019 and has racked up more than 100 appearances for the Rossoneri, and he was a very important cog in the Scudetto-winning side from last season.

The report mentions that Milan have set a €45m asking price for the Algeria international which does seem to be within United’s budget, though they would also be willing to include Donny van de Beek in the deal to reduce the outlay from a cash point of view.

Competition in Algeria also reported United’s interest in Bennacer last month, but Calciomercato.com believe a renewal and the possible alteration of his €50m release clause is in the pipeline.

  1. Hahaha, hahhah….. Hah.

    Sure thing.
Van Der Beek must be worth a similar amount to Bennacer and has just gotten a manager who will trust in him in Ten Haag, I can’t see how they would possibly do this.

If they do, Milan should snap their hands off for that deal.

But it won’t happen, this is today’s “quick, make something up for clicks” story.

  2. Probably fake news, but fun fake news. I’d take that deal in a heartbeat. Bennacer is great, but he’s been injured a portion of every season with us and his contract extension is not going to be cheap wither. If this rumor is true we’d get an immediate replacement plus some cash to help get a proper RW.

  3. I can never understand why calciomercato is referred to on this site as a source for anything. 97.35% of everything they post is rubbish and rumors.

  4. I’m not sure whether this is news or something being explored, however I do know that I’ve seen Bennacer pop up various times in the past week (first Arsenal, then at Juve for cash + Fagioli, now at M.U.)

Is it possible that he and his agent are testing the market before they decide whether to sign a new contract or not??

  5. NO.

Van de beek is a disaster in the making. He cant make it in a non existent ManU midfield. He couldn’t make it in Everton. Dude forgot what football is. Can’t even land a straight pass. No f*cking way.

If we are open to selling Bennacer, which, is in fact, gonna be a biiiig mistake… we should get cash only. And 50 is too cheap.

Look at the prince of other midfielders of the same quality.. ! Tchouameni went for 100 mil, why should we let Bennacer, a player with similar characteristics, go for peanuts?

It’s a Clear NO. Renew Bennacer and keep him. He is better than all of the midfielders we have ATM. He is the kind of player you can build a team around. Just give him regular game time and build his confidence, he is capable of carrying a whole team.

  6. Bye bye bennacer (hopefully) he is ok but nothing more. Worst case scanerio out salemaekers there i doubt if there will be a diffrence
