Mancini confirms Florenzi has been sent back early from Italy duty due to ‘problems’

By Oliver Fisher -

Italy head coach Roberto Mancini has announced that Alessandro Florenzi will not play against Turkey tomorrow night due to a physical problem and will return to Milan.

Italy’s worst fears came true last week as they were eliminated from the World Cup play-offs at the semi-final stage by North Macedonia, and now the pressure is mounting on Mancini to prove that he is still the right man to lead the team forward.

Florenzi started that game against North Macedonia at right-back and earned some mixed reviews for his performance, but it has now been revealed that the on-loan Roma man has an injury that meant he has been returned to his club early.

Speaking at the press conference before the match against Turkey, Mancini announced that the Florenzi will not be available and will return immediately to Milanello.

“Why did Jorginho, Immobile and Insigne leave? I forced them to leave because if I can do something for them and for the clubs we do it,” he began (via MilanNews).

“They would not have played, they would have been in the stands. Some of them were not physically at their best. Some of them I forced them to go back.

“Florenzi and Politano also have problems, it is useless to make them come and then go to the stands. This is why we preferred to send them home immediately.”

Now we must wait for official word from Milan to discover how serious the problem is or if it is in fact just general fatigue.
