Mancini worried about what Tonali’s move to Newcastle means: “There are some problems”

Italy coach Roberto Mancini has revealed his belief that Sandro Tonali’s decision to leave AC Milan for Newcastle United is a ‘problem’.

It has been a very turbulent last few weeks at Milan with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s surprise retirement followed by the sacking of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara less than 24 hours later and then by the death of iconic former owner Silvio Berlusconi.

According to Fabrizio Romano among other sources, the midfielder will join new Premier League power Newcastle United for €70m including bonuses, and Tonali will get a potential €9m net per season for six years.

Tonali spoke during an interview with Sky and as part of it he was asked for his thoughts on the seemingly imminent move for Tonali, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“On the one hand there is a bit of regret, if a good and young player like Tonali leaves Italy it means that there are some problems. On a technical level, however, playing the Premier League in Tonali will be useful, it’s good for him,” he said.

Tonali is currently away captaining Italy’s U21 team at the European Championships in Romania and Georgia, but will be back with the senior side after the tournament.

  1. Italy have missed the last 2 world cups,
the league have become a hub for either pre retirement players or a stepping stone for young players,
the best players in the league leave every summer,
clubs are obstructed by bureaucracy and political red tape from building
    new stadiums,
the most famous club in the country have been caught cheating twice in 15 years,
and this dude just realized that there might be a problem because Tonali left.

    1. Be real here all the major EPL clubs have broken financial fair play (possibly with the exception of Arsenal who seemingly buried to play the game but suffered for it) – the FA just turns a blind eye as to not impact on their brand. At least Serie A has acted….Man City just laugh.

    2. You’re Right.

Crappy TV/Media rights deals too. Too much bureaucracy. Italy taking one step forward and three steps back, always.

    3. Summed up why the FIGC must be completely overhauled, these guys are the most nepotized, out of touch, corrupt bunch of as$holes to ever walk the earth

      1. It’s not the FIGC, it’s the government and local mayors. You can only blame the FIGC for the lack of player development, but most of the blame goes to the clubs for not giving Italian players a chance.

  2. This guy finally realized that Italian football has problems after about 20 years. lol Must be a really fast learner lmfao

  3. Of course there is problem from italian football. Government make it hard to build new stadium , low tv revenue & sponsorship comparing with EPL . Bad structure league . Player from italian league often move to EPL for higher salary
