Red Bull Soccer director Mario Gomez has questioned AC Milan’s decision to try and build a new stadium, admitting the similarities between their project and the Rossoneri’s.

The 37-year-old took on the role of technical director for Red Bull Soccer earlier this year and he certainly knows the game well having had spells with Stuttgart, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Besiktas and Wolfsburg, as well as an 11-year career with the German national team and with nine club trophies to his name.

Gomez spoke to Prime Video before Milan took on Salzburg at San Siro last night, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On the San Siro atmosphere: “I don’t know why they want to build a new stadium. Coming here to San Siro is always special.”

On his work: “We don’t do anything special compared to the other clubs. We just try to take young talents to develop, what is important is the mentality. We do the same things that Milan do, which have changed in recent years, making many young players grow and making them reach a high level.”

The players who have passed through the doors of Red Bull Salzburg speaks for itself with Haaland, Minamino, Daka, Manè, Szoboszlai, Upamecano, Naby Keita, Adeyemi, Haidara and now Sesko and Okafor among them.
