Marseille director slams Maldini for ‘disrespectful’ comments: “Thauvin has a contract with us”

Paolo Maldini has made it clear that Milan are interested in Florian Thauvin, whose contract with Marseille will expire at the end of the season. As you would expect, though, the French side didn’t exactly appreciate his words.

The 27-year-old has been in the Rossoneri’s sights for quite some time and with a renewal still missing, he’s still on their list. The four goals and five assists he has registered in Ligue 1 this season haven’t made it worse, either.

In an interview with Telefoot this evening (see video below), Marseille’s sporting director Pablo Longoria was asked about Maldini’s comments on their star. Although he admitted a renewal is tough, he also stated that the Italian’s words were ‘disrespectful’.

“We didn’t find them very respectful. I don’t want to argue with Milan and Maldini, who are doing a good job, but Thauvin has a contract with us and I found them disrespectful. Renewal? We are working, we talked about it with his agent, but it is difficult. Maldini’s words complicated the situation,” he stated.

It remains to be seen where Thauvin will end up next season, although it’s clear that Milan will try to sign him on a free transfer. Succeeding, on the other hand, is an entirely different question.
