AC Milan sporting director Ricky Massara has stated that the club do not plan on making any more signings in the January window.
The Rossoneri have welcomed three signings already this month as Soualiho Meite joined on loan with an option to buy from Torino, Mario Mandzukic signed a six-month deal as a free agent and Fikayo Tomori became the latest recruit last night, joining from Chelsea on loan with an option.
Massara spoke to Sky Italia before the game against Atalanta and confirmed that the club do not plan to make any more signings, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.
On the transfer market: “Milan want to compete until the end. In a season like this where the incidence of injuries is very high, we want to be ready and be able to give the coach choices in order to go as far as possible in all three competitions.”
On a deputy Theo: “The signings are over. We will see if there are opportunities but at the moment it is unlikely.”
On Tomori: “We always try to have an option to buy. Sometimes it is not possible and in order to have the player you give up. We had to fight enough for Tomori, we are convinced that he can help us, he has different characteristics from the defenders in the squad.
“He has qualities like speed and aggression that ours have less markedly, but we are happy with Kjaer, Romagnoli, Gabbia, Kalulu and Musacchio. We consider ourselves complete and we are confident. Tonight we expect a very complicated match.”
Is it a market to win immediately? “No, to be competitive in all matches. Due to injuries and Covid we found ourselves in an emergency, with the coach who managed to find alternative solutions.
“Having the possibility today of having a complete staff from a numerical point of view reassures us. The Champions League fight will be tight and we will have to do our best as we have done since the beginning of the season.”
