AC Milan are on the hunt for a new striker this summer, and iconic striker Daniele Massaro offered his thoughts on one of the targets that the Rossoneri are dreaming of this summer.
Olivier Giroud departing the club only added depth to the idea that Milan needed to invest in a striker this summer, and with confirmation of the Frenchman’s next destination, the Diavolo cannot waste time in their search for a new No.9.
Two names have remained prominent throughout their search, Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee, and it seemed as though the latter option was unfeasible due to a rising price tag. However, reports yesterday have suggested that the Rossoneri may still have a chance of securing the Dutchman.
It was revealed that the striker has a €40 million release clause, open to everyone, and whilst this will please Milan, it will also have piqued the interest of other interested teams.
Massaro spoke to reporters at the Scuola Militare Teuliè in Milan about Zirkzee’s quality, and his words have been relayed by MilanNews.
Zirkzee, in your opinion, has that elegance there?
“Well, Van Basten is there, he can get there, it will be very difficult, but he can get there.”
That’s high praise from one of our former hitmen. To achieve that level he will have to work incredibly hard, were talking superhuman levels of hard.
Well never say never but i’ll highly question that notion as van basten had accumolated over 150 goals before joining us at the age of 23. Zirkzee on the other hand and at nearly the age of 23 has bagged 36 goals combined in first team matches, it doesnt really sound like someone in the vein of van basten who undoubtedly is one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. A van Basten in modern game would probably cost 150-200 mil in modern days.
Yep, Van Basten was further than most players in his career when he retired, not even CR7 is even close to his output at 27.
Yeah had he not been retired at such a young age i’m pretty confident to say that van basten would have had as many ballon d’ors as messi has now so its a completely different bracket of players that should even be considered to be compared to him.
What a silly comment. Zirkzee is comparable stylistically to Gullit, not to Van Basten.
Yeah if anything but even gullit had bagged roughly the double than zirkzee at the same age, I would nevertheless avoid comparing a young player of today who basically hasn’t proven anything yet with some of the greats of the sport, it simply wont serve anyone any good. At that age Gullit also had 20 international matches in a far stronger netherlands team, zirkzee is yet to even play 1 in a far inferior team.
Zirkzee has only been a starter since 2021 so the age comparison is totally invalid. Both Gullit and Van Basten were first team regulars at major clubs in their late teens.
exactly and why is that ? those talents was more immense than that of zirkzee. Had he been as talented as those players he would have played more and they actually managed to carve their way into better teams (minus gullits haarlem) than he has played in so i’ll rest my case here as my points are far from invalid.
