It was deemed that he could play with injections, albeit with a risk for the future. Alternatively, he could have surgery, which would keep him out for 3-4 months. So, why did the Diavolo need to make a move now? Ultimately, they decided that they didn’t need to.
Mateta avoids surgery
With the move breaking down, reports suggested that there was a chance that the Crystal Palace star would head to have surgery anyway, despite the problem being known for a while beforehand. However, Le Parisien reports, via Calciomercato.com, that this is not the case.
After consulting four specialists, the Frenchman has decided to avoid surgery for the time being, and each party agreed on the plan of action.
He still dreams of making the World Cup squad, which will be difficult considering the talent ahead of him. First, though, he must find a starting spot in the Crystal Palace team, which will be a challenge in itself.

He’s getting bad advice. Vabbe is right. Too much talent in front of him to make the French team carrying an injury. You passed up a team very likely to have CL ball next year to risk further injury and real doubts about making the national team. Milan made the right choice.

Play on with injections that could result in an even more massive injury that could potentially put him out for a half year or longer? Or maybe even put his entire career at risk?
