Reports: Mateta to Milan deal ‘put on hold for several reasons’ – the situation

There has been another twist in the Jean-Philippe Mateta saga, as AC Milan are now evaluating whether to sign him before the deadline.

It seemed as though everything was done and that Mateta would sign before the window closes. The Athletic even stated that the Frenchman is undergoing a medical today with a deal worth in excess of €30m having been agreed by Milan and Crystal Palace.

Milan stall on Mateta

According to Di Marzio, there have been new developments that have emerged in the negotiations for Mateta to join the Rossoneri. After reaching an agreement with the player, the deal was ‘put on hold’ for ‘several reasons’.

First and foremost, Crystal Palace’s need to find a replacement for him, though they seem to have secured Jorgen Strand Larsen. Another reason is the overcrowding in attack, with Christopher Nkunku having made it clear he wants to stay with Milan and the expected return of Santi Gimenez.

Given Nkunku’s decision (Fenerbahce and Roma were interested in him), it’s uncertain whether the Frenchman will arrive immediately. Milan are currently evaluating whether to make the move before the transfer window closes, bringing Mateta to Milan despite his compatriot remaining.

Meanwhile, Graeme Bailey reports that Milan are doing extra work on Mateta’s knee following his recent injury. There is no suggestion the deal is off, but it’s ‘a big deal for Milan, so they have to be happy’.

  1. Stupidity really. Puli and Leao are never fit. Fullkrug broken toe, Gimenez and Nkunku are useless. Bring this guy asap.

    1. Ok sounds let’s keep a player like Nkunku who’s been absolutely worthless, overlaps with Leao and Puli, not a striker for a real number who scored in in the premier league. Brilliant.

      1. Sometimes it’s not the club’s choice bro. If they player doesn’t want to leave, or doesn’t want to sign for the clubs interested, they can’t force him out. Some people don’t understand contracts.

  2. This is idiotic and none of these “developments” are new. Milan brass knew all this before they negotiated for Mateta. Something doesn’t compute.

      1. You answered your own question. The media will write their stories. Just pay attention to the club’s official feed, and take all of these stories for what they are: entertainment.

  3. Between our interest for that injured BL04 forward, Gimenez playing with an injury for 2 months and literally ALL of our current attackers carrying constant injury throughout the season (while also playing?!), there surely must be something here that goes beyond simple coincidence.

  4. I dont understand whats the problem with leao. With nkunku we know is a mental issue…hope the fight for the scudetto. I hope is not about who is the king by milan…alpha mentallity

  5. How come the Cremonese- Inter game was allowed to continue after inter fans threw a flair on the pitch that hit and injured Cremonese’s goalkeeper?
Game should have been abandoned and Cremonese awarded 3-0 win.

    1. A former neighbor of mine who previously worked cleaning trains and who also was an AC Milan fan found an Inter shirt the day Milan played cl against them where Dida got hit with a thrown flare had the audacity to hang it on my door handle. I poured it with flammable liquid and threw it out from my window from 4rth floor so it the next day it hang in a lightpost 😀 from what I recall that match was also played to the end.

        1. 😀 He’ll probably do himself a great favor for at least not come knocking on my door 🙂 But I suspect that applies to all Danes and the vast majority of Europeans as well.

          1. Appreciate it SJF, I suspect most is but not everyone but nevertheless the great majority as what he has been doing simply is morally wrong.

  6. mateta forcing a move by saying his mind is not right . bull”’t. make him stay until the summer. then bench him. he knew we needed him today . very disappointed with his lack of loyalty .

  7. Hahah Boniface tell us injuri and guy play.
Thiao tell us injuri and Kalulu and they both play all matches. I think we are joke at transfers and dont know anything.
We just have lucky with Maignan and Allegri and because play only seria A.

    1. Boniface has only played 326 minutes this season so its a somewhat debatable and he is also currently out with an injury.

  8. Seems like Milan has a habit of signing certain players who refuse to leave, once deemed surplus to requirements. Then ownership just backs off and cancels deals for a replacement player.

  9. What is this Boniface 2.0? Mateta has played every single game this year and every minute. 35 games last year and 36 the year before in the premier league. If there was an underlying issue I don’t think he would be playing that much lol

  10. We just keep embarrassing ourselves with this kind of attitude when we want to sign a striker . Why should we wait till 11 hour for us to look for a striker ?
