Mayor Sala urges Milan and Inter to reconsider what would be a ‘sensational mistake’

By Oliver Fisher -

The Mayor of Milano Giuseppe Sala has urged AC Milan and Inter to reconsider their plans to move outside of the city limits to build their respective new stadiums.

Milan and Inter launched a joint project four years ago in which they declared their aim to construct a new stadium next to the current San Siro before partly demolishing it, but they were met with a lot of delays and opposition.

Thus, the clubs have decided to go their separate ways. The Rossoneri have made the decision to focus on San Donato for their new home and they recently presented the project to the city council, which you can read about on our Substack.

Inter meanwhile seem to want to move forward with a project in Rozzano, and Mayor Sala spoke about the plans of the teams at the Piero della Francesca exhibition, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“The clubs can legitimately go and build the stadium wherever they want, I personally believe that it is a sensational mistake for the clubs not to build the stadium in Milan,” he said.

“I believe that a stadium outside Milan is unmanageable because I don’t know how many policemen Rozzano has, as he does to deploy 100 policemen when there is a match? Here it is illusory, in my opinion they are also telling a lot of lies.

“A lie I hear is that clubs can guarantee safety, but where? They can’t do it. I believe it is a macroscopic error on the part of clubs, but I believe that from their point of view they can complain about the fact that from we have constraints and our slowness, we haven’t been able to give answers in a short time. I don’t want to consider this match over.

“There would also be ‘difficulties’ for Milan at the stadium in San Donato because parking is necessary as the subway is one and a half kilometres away. I don’t think it is possible to park in the Parco Sud or in the Maura. I only invite the teams to think about it again.”

  1. There is a thing called private security. Not that hard to hire people to guard something for an evening. Weak argument by Sala.

  2. Sala cut his nose off to spite his face with his actions over the years, now he’s begging like a little dog, when we wanted to buy the San Siro he should’ve reconsider back then. Now he’s coming off as an idiot

  3. Milan and Inter should go ahead and continue their own projects on different parts of the city, first of all, these two teams need to have their own stadiums separately, they need it for their own growth and prestige, and the stadiums will be their own, secondly it would take longer to do any project, let them forget Sala and continue their own plans
