Mayor Sala responds to Cardinale’s words on Milan’s stadium plans

By Ben Dixon -

In recent months, Mayor Sala has consistently requested that AC Milan stay open-minded about plans for the San Siro’s potential renovation. In a recent interview, he replied to Gerry Cardinale’s thoughts.

There are no guarantees with the situation as it currently lies. WeBuild have offered their services to renovate the stadium, but it is unknown whether Milan and Inter will accept the plans as feasible, especially given it could require a temporary rehoming, causing a significant loss of revenue.

However, the Rossoneri seem to favour the San Donato project, and given they have bought land in the area, it seems a feasible plan, which matches what Cardinale envisions for the club’s home, comparing the situation to the Yankees’ in recent years – acknowledging history but open to the future.

Mayor Sala spoke at an event related to the Milan Santa Giulia master plan (via MilanNews) about the current landscape of the stadium situation and responded to Cardinale’s words.

“I appreciated Cardinale’s words. The positive thing is that Inter and Milan have sent Webuild their needs. I heard and appreciated Gerry Cardinale’s words. The positive thing is that Inter and Milan have sent Webuild their needs so that the club can consider them in the construction of the project.

“So I suspend optimism or pessimism while waiting for June. What I am doing with my offices is continuing to push for the timetable to be respected. It is important that by June, we can provide a credible alternative to the San Donato and Rozzano projects.”
