Mayor Sala offers update on San Siro proceedings: “I am moderately optimistic”

By Ben Dixon -

In recent months, Beppe Sala has attempted to make AC Milan and Inter reconsider their position about San Siro, and whilst it has been unsuccessful so far, he has admitted he is feeling optimistic about the future.

Since the announcement that Milan and Inter were going to start new projects away from San Siro, the Mayor of Milan has consistently tried to make both clubs view the situation differently, making several attempts to speak about the feasibility of remaining under the same roof.

From a Rossoneri perspective, it seems the chances of extending their stay at San Siro are slim to none, especially with Gerry Cardinale repeatedly expressing his desires to evolve the club, using the stadium as an avenue to do so.

Nevertheless, the club have still been in talks with the relevant parties, most notably when WeBuild held a meeting with both clubs recently, and whilst questions arose about the meeting, it shows that neither club has fully written off the possibility.

Last night, Beppe Sala was present in Paris as Casa Italia was inaugurated, and following this, he spoke to journalists from AlaNews, who asked about the San Siro situation, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“I am moderately optimistic. There is interest from the teams and we are talking. Obviously, it’s a complex job because they keep thinking about the two alternatives: either San Siro or a new stadium.

“Obviously, I have to do my part, which is to protect San Siro, but I believe that these reflections cannot take much longer. So I say to everyone let’s see what happens in the next two to three months, which are decisive.”

It is an uphill battle that Milan’s Mayor is refusing to back down from, and to some degree, you have to respect it, but whether there is any tangible progress is yet to be seen.

  1. When will Sala understand that we are not interested? When they made all sorts of short-sighted obstacles to tearing down San Siro and building a new and modern one on the same site and stalled for years, they lost us. Too late now, Saka. Back off!

  2. Sala is beating a dead horse with the stadium issue, at least with Milan. There is zero chance Cardinale will agree with going on at San Siro

  3. Only stupid club want rent forever old stadium. In 2007 ACM have almost equal income with Real madrid , in 2024 RM reach income 1 billion euro / years while ACM only 400m euro / years. RM also renovating their stadium while ACM still sleeping
