‘Can’t afford to lose him’ – Mazzara offers brutal truth about Maignan’s Milan situation

In the upcoming months, Mike Maignan’s future could be decided, though it could be an even longer wait. Right now, AC Milan will hope that the wait ends in success.

Contractual issues are nothing new with Milan. Last season, they lost Theo Hernandez to timing, and now it seems likely that Maignan will join the Frenchman in leaving the club. However, the Rossoneri will not get a fee in the summer.

Instead, the Rossoneri would watch their captain sign a deal elsewhere after his current contract expires. That is, of course, unless something incredible happens over the next few months.

This seems unlikely though, considering the goalkeeper reportedly has no interest in dealing with the current management, with talks silenced.

‘Would be a crime’

For Pietro Mazzara, the management must do everything to seal an extension on his deal, and he explained the negatives of the situation for MilanNews this afternoon.

“Now the management, led by Giorgio Furlani, should take a dramatic step back and sit down with Mike to renew his contract. The thought that in less than two months, Maignan could sign with another club and leave for free is pure madness.

“He’s one of the absolute leaders of this locker room, and you can’t afford to lose him like this. Sign him, call him to Casa Milan, try to put everything behind you, and reclaim that contract that was verbally drawn up in February and then scrapped due to negative feedback from his mistakes in the Champions League.

“Not renewing Maignan would be a crime.”

    1. if we were to lose Mike it won’t be easy to find his replacement he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world Chelsea want him already this summer but Milan said no! so it’s really hard to find!

  1. Agree…losing Mike will be terrible, but he is replaceable. Did you notice that the PSG chairman was at the match….I was thinking Mike and Leao are probably on their radar.

  2. To buy another goalkeeper we need at least 20 mil + commissions + annual salary let’s say 3 mil for 5 seasons, we are talking about 35+ mil. To renew Mike’s contract for 3 years let’s say 6 or 7 annual salary + commissions we will spend 25 mil maximum. Not renewing his contract is madness

  3. Can you guys stop writing about Mike leaving now we got it with the last article about him, very good chance he leaves barring a miracle but repeating the same thing is asinine

  4. It is pure madness but that was the result of managements own mistakes. If Mike leaves even more pressure on them to get a competent replacement

  5. I see only two things Milan can do to make Mike reconsider staying.
1st, which is the obvious one is to give him a good offer. That’s the easiest part.

The 2nd is the main thing: is Milan interested in Champions league trophy in the next 2 to 3 seasons? If not, then don’t expect him to stay no matter how much you offer him.
I’m sure if Mike leaves Milan he is going for a club that has the possibility of lifting that trophy.

So, the question is, Are Milan ready to chase the Champions league from next season? That is very ambitious, but that’s most likely Mike’s reality right now.
