Mazzara: ‘Collective strength’ and ‘greater depth’ evident as Milan overcome tough schedule

Thanks to their win against Genoa, which was the final game of seven in just 22 days, AC Milan are now at the top of the league standings. As highlighted by Pietro Mazzara, it’s an important sign of collective strength.

The win against Genoa was indeed hard-fought, breaking the deadlock through Christian Pulisic in the 87th minute. Above all, however, it highlighted a strong team mentality as was also stated by the owner Gerry Cardinale.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, the journalist Pietro Mazzara spoke about the start of the season and Milan’s journey in these last few weeks. Everyone is talking about the Rossoneri, who refused to get beaten down by unreasonable scheduling.

“The win in Genoa was tremendously useful for the players to feel even stronger. It’s matches like these that show signs of competitiveness for the season to come.

“Did Milan win the Scudetto? Of course not, but compared to last season, this win gave an indication of collective strength and greater squad depth even compared to the Scudetto season two years ago.

“What is certain is that the famous schedule, regarding which the controversy continues, has sapped the energy of the players who now will go on international duty, hoping that nothing serious happens,” he wrote.

Milan will take on the likes of Juventus, Napoli and PSG (two legs) after the break and a lot of answers will be given then. The last few weeks ended in success, though, and the Rossoneri will be hoping to replicate that for the coming weeks too.
