Mazzara: Milan need ‘profound’ attacking revolution – from new signing to Colombo

AC Milan have already started their plans for next season and the priority seems to be the attack. Having struggled to find the back of the net, the Rossonero are keen on making some significant changes in the summer.

Olivier Giroud has been the only consistent performer this season, while the likes of Ante Rebic and Divock Origi have been very disappointing. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, continues to struggle with injuries.

As highlighted by Pietro Mazzara in his editorial for MilanNews, Milan will need a ‘profound’ change in attack this summer. In addition to bringing in a young striker, they should also keep Lorenzo Colombo as a third choice (currently on loan at Lecce).

Colombo has scored five goals for Lecce this season (his first proper one in Serie A) and he has impressed. He’s still very young (21) and has room for improvement, which is why Milan also intend to sign a youngster that is ready immediately.

  1. Bringing Colombo back to be the 3rd choice striker is not beneficial for Milan nor for Colombo.
He would barely play as a 3rd choice and a player who is 20 should play as much as he can.
He isn’t ready to be a 2nd choice striker on a club like Milan, especially not if the starter is 37 years old Giroud.
Colombo should either stay at lecce for couple more years, especially since he starts for them or buy him back and send him to another club where he would be getting a lot of playing time.

    1. He isn’t playing regularly, he’s mostly a sub, and he’s too slow. El Hilali is better, but Pioli doesn’t have the balls to play him.

      1. He has played 25 games for Lecce of which 15 as a starter and 11 as a sub. 1300 minutes so far. In comparison Giroud has played 1600 minutes for Milan this season.
I’d say based on those numbers he starts more than he is a sub and plays pretty good amount of minutes for them.

      2. It’s the same thing every year.

A guy scores in primavera -> fans think that means he is ready for adult football -> fans insult the coach -> player gets a loan move to prove himself -> player struggles on loan -> another youth scores goals in primavera in his absence -> fans jump ship, hype the new guy and forget the previous guy beacause they have the memory of a goldfish.

        Rinse and repeat.

        1. Lol, agreed. As usual, I think the media has a role to play, particularly on this site, with the numerous articles about primavera players and how much they’re scoring, like the same Colombo, Nasti and Camarda. Camarda is 14, and people are already talking about him as the next Shevchenko or something. 10-15 years ago we wouldn’t have heard of Camarda until he was a professional starting for a club somewhere.

        2. Bingo! Spot on @Kilroy
I see the same happening with Camarda smh
Bojan Kirkic was a goal machine too in his youth career smh.

  2. We don’t need any new “youngsters” right now. we need a player in the 22-25 age range that has a track record of scoring. Can’t expect to compete for titles with players who haven’t scored regularly and experienced the game at the highest levels. Colombo scoring 5 goals for Lecce is great, but that’s not close to being a sign he can lead our line. He should spend another year on loan at a smaller Serie A club and be the undisputed starter. If he does that and scores 10-15 goals then he should absolutely be brought back to compete for the starting striker position. Nasti is in Serie B and doing well with Cosenza, and at 19 should spend another season in Serie B on loan, then a season in Serie A on loan and then be evaluated. But we need a young[er] proven scorer now. We can’t go another season with Ibra playing 3 matches, old Giroud and useless Origi.

  3. With origi like clown on the field and Ibra getting old, milan should keep colombo and giroud and sign one good striker. I guess it could be fit on Teregui. Please no player like Leao again, milan need natural born striker no. 9
