Mazzara: Milan put idea of signing another striker on stand-by – the reasons

AC Milan may not sign another striker this summer despite being linked with a host of options that could challenge Alvaro Morata for the starting spot.

As reported by Pietro Mazzara at Milan News, the Rossoneri could choose to focus their financial efforts elsewhere during the remainder of the summer transfer window and revisit the issue of another striker at a later date.

The primary reason for not signing another striker this summer is that no player has ticked all of the boxes. Many names have been linked but between price tags, injury records, and desires to play elsewhere, it has never materialised.

Tammy Abraham’s admission that he would like to stay at Roma or head to the Premier League may have been the last straw, and Milan will likely enter the season with Morata, Luka Jovic, Noah Okafor and then Francesco Camarda as an outside option.

Elsewhere, there is still a serious desire to sign a new midfielder with Youssouf Fofana, Manu Kone, Danilo and Johnny Cardoso all very credible names.

Beyond that, the focus will be on selling players as the likes of Yacine Adli, Tommaso Pbega, Pierre Kalulu and Alexis Saelemaekers could all be on the move.

  1. This never made any sense whilst we had 3 players for the position anyway, so glad to move on for now – if there’s an opportunity for an outgoing then fair enough, but we have no space at the moment.

      1. Sure he is. If plays on ST and score goals he is a striker..

David villa or Henry were not ST until they were. Not saying Noah is on their lvl or anything like that but you should get the picture of what I’m trying to say

        1. You’re right, Henry was a decent winger at Monaco and Juve, Wenger and the move to striker turner him into one of the all time greats. I do think Okafor could make the same transition. I said it many times last season, Okafor’s instinct in the box and positioning is very good. He may not end up being Henry, but I do think he’s got it in him to be a good striker

      2. Okafor has ALWAYS played as a striker for the Swiss national team and for RB Salzburg. So what are you talking about, seriously?

Okafor was never a winger until Pioli made the stupid decision to play him as a replacement winger for Leao which he is not good at. He scores more goals and is better when he plays as a center forward. Smh

        1. Okafor is not a striker in a system we play because he needs to come in from the outside to be effective, where Leao plays.

We need central strikers, and neither Jovic nor Okafor can cut it there on their own. The only time they scored playing striker last season was when the opposition box was flooded with players – pioli’s kitchen sink approach.

          1. this.

Okafor is a second striker behind a number 9. Never understood why Pioli approved him when he was not suited to his tactics….well it is Pioli

          2. I think you’re correct he’s more of a 2nd striker. But players are not set in stone at his age, even the likes of Morata adapted their game somewhat over time above the age of 24.

All I’m saying is, Okafor has similar speed /height to J David who Fonseca used in the no.9 role at Lille. It’s possible (not a guarantee, true) that Fonseca could coach Okafor to be our David. And remember the pressure is less because David was his first choice no.9 while Okafor would be Morata deputy. So he doesn’t need to be a roaring success. Just a competent one.

    1. Why not try loftuc cheek as a striker? he is tall, monster high jump good shoot and smells goal… cant’t undrestand why noone express this opinion…

  2. We really need to focus on a midfielder, and a few exits.

And I think trust should be given to Jovic. Or we really do need to sign a striker. But perhaps that can be later in the transfer market. We need to focus on what is most important, and that’s a defensive minded midfielder.

I think Johnny Cardoso or Richard Rios may be better options right now. Cardoso because American owner… Cardoso is really more Brazilian than American. He lived in Brazil most of his life since he was a kid. Just born in America to Brazilian parents who moved back.

  3. So Mister X that Cardinale management kept promising the fans of a big signing for two years is just old Morata 🤣🤣🤣

I am starting to feel bad for Fonseca, he publicly asked for Abraham and it seems like he will be publicly embarrassed.

In the end, it is on him for trusting another ding-dong American management! Again.
