There has been a bit of concern about AC Milan’s spending to sign Goncalo Ramos, but he has not had the easiest time at PSG.
Spending upwards of €70 million to sign Ramos is a big move for Milan. In fact, it’d be a big move for most clubs in Europe and doubts would be high wherever he went. However, he’s never really had a chance at PSG.
Ramos’ struggles
This morning, Gazzetta dello Sport has looked at his time spent in the French capital, starting with the idea of bringing him to the club to be Kylian Mbappe’s partner. However, he became more of an attacking alternative, rather than his partner.
He has regularly worked for the team, rather than himself, happily taking on the role of being the super sub. When Mbappe departed, he hoped for a chance to start. Instead, Luis Enrique preferred a fluid front three, as opposed to a system built around their big investment.
Ramos has still made the most of it, though, regularly scoring big goals in big moments. For example, he only started 16 games in his first season and 12 in this one. His importance has still been shown, though.
For example, he played 30 minutes against Arsenal and scored a penalty in the shootout. There can be questions about his ability to start games and shine, but he has the trust of the club. At 25, he still has plenty of time to ‘come good’. Milan is a great opportunity for him, and for them, too.
Expensive but its not our money and we’ve been crying for a classy CF for years. At 25 we’re getting an ambitious player who despite winning 2 ucls and many trophies with PSG and Benfica is still hungry to establish himself at a big club and is yet to hit his peak. Money aside his a quality player, right age, hard working, tactically flexible, good linkup play, can play targetman, can drop deep, good with both feet & head. Can’t fault cardinale for spending money this time. We’ll know if he fits the project and profile soon.

If you want to win you have to spend. Everything else is nonsense people write to comfort themselves. There isn’t a single team winning titles and buying 10 x 20M players every year and selling 10 of them. The only way to do it is like they are trying now. They will fail with some, maybe even Ramos fails, but it doesn’t matter, the other 2-3 players will come good and you won’t care about one fail.
Not just to spend but to spend wisely… They’ve been spending foolishly for 3yrs
