The build-up continues for the big match on Monday night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona between Napoli and AC Milan.

As is often the case with games of this magnitude, there are lots of battles within the overall battle. Both Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte are using a three-man defence at the moment, even if there will be strategies in mind to try and surprise the opposition.

The two key men

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) have compared the two key players from Napoli and Milan. The presence of Scott McTominay and Adrien Rabiot makes the big match even more uncertain, and the numbers highlight their importance.

With the Scot on the pitch, the Azzurri win 68% of their matches, a percentage that drops to 40% without him. Similarly, the Rossoneri achieve a 71% win rate with the Frenchman, but without him the percentage drops to 33%.

Both are pivotal to Conte and Allegri’s systems. McTominay has played more and scored more (7 goals versus 5), while Rabiot stands out for his finishing efficiency, exceeding xG expectations.

The former Juventus man, on the other hand, contributes more to the game with more assists, chances created, and possession recovered, while the Scot excels in physical duels.

Napoli have recently learned to win even without McTominay, while Milan are still inconsistent from that point of view, because Rabiot’s impact is so large that it veers towards over-dependance.
