The fallout from AC Milan’s defeat to Cagliari has been seismic and there are considerable doubts about the future.

No one fronted up to the defeat and none of the management stuck around. Everyone disappeared, quick to hide from the latest poor result.
Disappearing into the night
As MilanNews reports, the game finished and Gerry Cardinale rushed to his car, keen to avoid the onslaught from the fanbase who had been calling for his departure vocally during the game. He was not alone, though, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic doing the same, with an escort.
It took 30 minutes for Massimiliano Allegri to report to the media, but he was effectively silent. He played the media game, things aren’t good enough and need to be fixed, etc.
No one spoke in the mixed zone, not even Allegri nor the captain Mike Maignan. This is not a normal reaction and the silence to the media may have been called for internally. However, it does not paint a strong picture.
Giorgio Furlani and Massimo Calvelli left San Siro together and then there was a meeting in the dressing room between Matteo Gabbia, Adrien Rabiot and Allegri. Their discussion points are unknown and whether the future was involved is another thing.
However, the fact only those three were involved is something in itself.
I rarely share anything, and I won’t break that habit today but I will say this much: what you’re witnessing right now is not a crisis. It’s a controlled demolition.
Some of us have known for a while that this moment was coming. The inherited structures, the half-finished projects, the appointments that were compromises rather than convictions all of it needed to be cleared before the real work could begin. That process is now underway.

Cardinale is serious. More serious than most people outside the inner circle understand. He knows exactly what this club is one of the greatest names in world football, with an Ultras culture that deserves to be matched by ambition at the top. That alignment is coming.
And think about this carefully: imagine we had qualified for the Champions League with Allegri. Imagine letting that philosophy take root for another two or three years. The relief you’d have felt in the short term would have cost us everything in the long term. This hurt is the price of doing it properly.
The foundation was never going to be built on top of someone else’s rubble. Now it won’t have to be.
