AC Milan have taken steps to try and secure the signing of midfielder Hector Herrera, according to the latest reports.
Porto captain Herrera, 28, is out of contract in the summer, and has attracted the attention of several European clubs with no signs that he will pen a new deal.
The Mexico international will be available on a free transfer in the summer, and has been suggested as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who is expected to leave Arsenal in the summer when his own contract also expires.
Meanwhile, Il Corriere dello Sport have also linked Roma with interest in Herrera.
However, according to Sport Mediaset, Milan have entered talks with the player’s agent Gabriel Moraes and are looking to reach an agreement over a deal.
Herrera has made 35 appearances so far this season in all competitions for the Portuguese side, and with uncertainty surrounding the futures of players like Jose Mauri, Riccardo Montolivo and Andrea Bertolacci, he could provide welcome depth.
