Mediaset journalist picks out four crucial errors the referee made in Milan’s win over Napoli

By Oliver Fisher -

SportMediaset journalist Maurizio Pistocchi believes that referee Paolo Valeri made four big mistakes during Milan’s 3-1 win over Napoli.

There were a number of contentious incidents within the game, including a potential foul in the build-up for Napoli’s goal to make it 1-2 and a foul by Ibrahimovic on Koulibaly that may have been an elbow.

According to Pistocchi, the referee Valeri made a mistake twice on the latter incident as he believes it should have been a red card and the game should have been stopped immediately because of a head injury.

He goes on to add that it was not a yellow card for Bakayoko’s first caution which came after a coming together with Alexis Saelemaekers, and it was not a foul committed by Kessie on Fabian Ruiz that had the Ivorian bearing down on goal.

Finally, he adds that it was a foul by Bakayoko on Kessie in the build-up to Napoli’s goal to halve the deficit as the Frenchman swiped the Ivorian’s legs out from under him before Mertens went on to net.

A lot of Twitter users have responded to say that he is wrong about the Ibrahimovic-Koulibaly incident as he references a still image and not the video which makes the contact look more innocuous.

  1. What’s wrong with this dude, how is Ibra touching the defender with the elbow inadvertedly a straight red, and how is Bakayoko breaking an ankle not even a yellow card?
