Mediaset: Milan ready to offer €25m plus player for Italy centre-back

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan continue to be linked with a move for Alessandro Buongiorno and they have an offer ready to send to Torino, according to a report.

Milan are likely to make changes to the defensive department given that Milan conceded 68 goals in 52 matches across all competitions last season, at an average of 1.3 goals conceded per match.

It has often been reported that Buongiorno of Torino is the dream centre-back target, but his price tag is very high and there is a lot of competition, in addition to the fact that Urbano Cairo suggested he will not consider offers.

According to the latest from SportMediaset (via Radio Rossonera), the Milan management are preparing an offer to Torino for Buongiorno and it will be a player-plus-cash deal rather than just a simple bid. The proposal will be €25m plus Alexis Saelemaekers as a counterpart.

The Belgian winger is unlikely to be bought permanently by Bologna after his loan there and would therefore to base, but Milan already have Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze in that area of the pitch and thus he would be free to leave.

Saelemaekers seems to be a profile that appeals to Torino and he could prove to be the ace up Milan’s sleeve to allow them to beat the competition (from Napoli above all) and land the Granata captain.

  1. Interesting. 25M and Salad still seems a bit too low for what Torino is expecting, but apparently rumor also has it that Torino is interested in Pobega. So maybe something like 20M plus Salad AND Pobega will do the trick.

    1. we can throw all the names and i agree but has there ever been an operation like that? 2 players + cash ?. Player swaps are rare to begin with. I cant remember a 2 for 1 and cash type of deal.
But if they take it, sign me up. I liked the Saladman but neither he nor Pobega have a future with us.

    2. Seeing that Flo and/or Calabria could exit, I don’t think Pobega leaves due to our need for Italians in the squad.

That said, I could see a team like Torino coveting Florenzi for his experience and versatility. (I’d personally be sad to see him go)

  2. At this rate throw Pobega in the mix too. Lord knows he has no future at Milan. Alexis + Pobega + 15mil or something.

  3. President of Torino U.Cairo will almost certainly not accept
this kind of offer! The man is so stubborn that he would rather ruin the careers of his players than agree to offers from other clubs. (The Belotti case a few years ago).

    1. Well he learned from it tho. Just look at Bremer. Went to his supposedly most rivaled club. For a tad below 50 mil. When he said Bremer should be worth around 70 mil or something.

        1. Exactly that, at least he became more reasonable and got big sum of money in Bremer avoiding the Belotti case all over again.

  4. With 2 make weights in Pobega and Salad surely should give Milan the impetus to try for Bourgiorno using at least one of them. Especially Salad since he is deemed surplus. Moncada them must learn to move smartly on the market, kill 2 birds with one stone…and beat our competition to some of these Italian assets.

  5. Cairo already made Milan management look bad with the “I didn’t hear the knock comment”, why come back with a low-ball offer… Salad is worth €10m max, so this is like €35m total compensation. It’s too low and a bit embarrassing honestly.. and gives Cairo a chance to clown us in the media again.

      1. This isn’t an official offer, and we know Cairo won’t sell… If they’re going to work the media, float a compelling offer and then put some pressure on him

    1. Leave whatever Cairo has to say the most important thing is that he accepts the deal and the Milan management moves on

  6. If the story is true, then, it shows intent and seriousness on Milan’s part. Adding Zirkzee, Tiago Santos, Bourngiono, Fofana, etc, says a lot, and would greatly improve the team’s depth and strength. Last season was a great improvement from the previous. This management deserves kudos for what they have done so far. We only hope the new coach will repay the confidence they have put in him.

  7. For Buongiorno Milan should offer to torino: pobega (hardly ever played last year); saelemakers (was with bologna last year so we won’t miss him); florenzi (had a tiff with fonseca at roma some years back) + a few millions (say 10 or 12). That would be fair for all.

  8. A good starting point for negotiations. On another note, apart for him being Italian and having a great season, let’s face it we all want him also because of his last name.

  9. don’t think Buongiorno is much good, just lots of last minute tackles. is he really the best italy has to offer nowadays?

  10. Buongiorno or Scalvini are the best 2 rising Italian CBs. If we can sign one it would be great. Pobega is not a starter either and had a great stint at Torino 2 years ago. He could be used in the deal too.

  11. 25 million is definitely the max we should be paying in raw cash for Buongiorno. He is extremely overrated. Calafiori is someone I wouldn’t mind paying top dollar for but he seems to be Juve bound

    1. Why are milan players always cheap? Alexis Saelemaekers will worth 40m in another Seria A club but peanuts 🥜 in Milan

  12. What if we play Gabbia and Tomorri. Kalulu on the right. Thiaw and Simic for depth.

Take the money and get Zirkzee as planned and Guirassey. Camarda third choice and the cup. Depth at the 9!

We have 40m for a DM. Quality improved in the midfield and we have depth.

If we sell Mike as seems like we likely net $20m after replacing him. So we could make a hard choice of selling Benny and picking up a quality AM as well.

I suspect however I have on too many moves as I think MGMT plans more continuity with the players this year given all the changes last year and a new coach this year.

  13. It means some of our CBs Will leave. Gabbia must stay (because of his Club Grown status & Briliance Performances last season). Tomori is the best CB in recent seasons. So what about Kalulu, and Thiaw ?
Boungiorno is Home Grown player, because trained at Torino. Pretty good idea to sign him.

We have Jan-Carlo Simic & Davide Bartesaghi who showed very promising prospects too, but they Will be emergency backup until next season i think.
