Mediaset: Milan and Inter battling for Napoli centre-back – latest on renewal situations

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter are both interested in signing Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic on a free transfer, according to a report.

Multiple outlets are reporting that an investment will be made in the defensive department, given that the club pursued a new centre-back in the summer window but never managed to sign one.

That is because Leo Duarte has never provided consistency, Mateo Musacchio will not renew his and is destined to leave Milan next summer and Alessio Romagnoli appears to be delicate from a physical point of view.

According to the latest from SportMediaset (via MilanNews), Nikola Maksimovic is the latest target to enter the orbit of the Rossoneri management, but their city rivals Inter are also keen.

Both Conte and Pioli have expressed an interest in the former Torino star and therefore a market derby could occur, with the 28-year-old available on a cut-price deal in January as things stand.

Meanwhile, the management are at work for both Donnarumma and Calhanoglu’s renewals. For the Turk, in particular, the situation is made difficult by the high demands of the player, with Atletico Madrid, Inter and Napoli all keen.
