Mediaset: Milan eye alternatives despite agreeing three-year deal with target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are weighing up their options as Atalanta are not willing to part with Marco Sportiello in January, according to a report.

According to SportMediaset (via MilanNews), the Maignan is worrying Milan and the French goalkeeper’s prolonged injury has forced Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to look at the transfer market to see if they can sign a new deputy goalkeeper in January.

Milan already have an agreement in principle with Marco Sportiello over a three-year contract worth €1m net per season which would become active ahead of 2023-24, but the negotiation is being held back by Atalanta and by Gian Piero Gasperini, who has blocked a January sale.

Milan are therefore thinking of an alternative plan in Alessio Cragno of Monza, who is yet to make a league appearance for them and could therefore join on a loan deal just so the Rossoneri have cover at least until the end of the season.
