Mediaset: Milan hoping to seal deal for first choice target after Paqueta sale

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have made Saint-Etienne teenager Wesley Fofana their first choice target to reinforce the defensive department, a report claims.

The Rossoneri are in desperate need of bolstering their defence given that Matteo Gabbia and Simon Kjaer are the only available options at the moment amid an injury crisis affecting Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio and Leo Duarte.

A number of targets continue to be linked including Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer, but one name that will not go away is Fofana.

According to SportMediaset on Sunday (via MilanNews), reinforcing the defence is now the priority for Milan. If the Rossoneri sold Lucas Paquetà – most likely to Lyon – they would have the money to land Fofana, who is the priority target for head coach Stefano Pioli.

If the Brazilian in fact did not leave before October 5, Schalke 04’s Matija Nastasic would arrive on loan instead, most likely with an option to buy.
