Mediaset: Milan abandon right-back pursuit as Kalulu impresses in training

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have been linked with several right-backs in the last few weeks, especially Emerson Royal, but it seems they could abandon the pursuit. According to a report, Pierre Kalulu has impressed enough in training for that to happen.

Emerson Royal has been at the top of Milan’s wish list for quite some time and an offer was even made to Tottenham. However, at least for now, the distance between offer and demand seems to be too big and there is no agreement in sight.

According to Mediaset, as cited by MilanNews, the Rossoneri could even abandon their right-back pursuit as Pualo Fonseca has been impressed by Kalulu in training. The Frenchman, who had a tough last season, is eager to prove himself and it could seemingly pay off.

Instead of a right-back, Milan have shifted focus to the centre-back position and Strahinja Pavlovic is currently the main target. An agreement is being sought with RB Salzburg and next week, more updates on the matter should arrive.

As for Kalulu, he struggled with various injuries last season and given his potential, it would be fantastic to see him blossom under Fonseca’s guidance.

  1. I strongly believe this is the right decision. Kalulu should be trusted as the first choice at the right flank of the defense. However, I would prefer to go for Kiwior rather than Pavlovic.

  2. Fonseca be cooking!!!

    24/25 season defense:
    RB: Kalulu, Calabria, Teracciano
    LB: Theo, Jimenez
    CB: Tomori, Pavlovic, Gabbia, Thiaw/Kiwior

It’s a shame that we have no Italian CBs from this generation. Boungiorno is Napoli player, Bastoni at Inter, Calafiori better at Arsenal than Juve but still sad he won’t be joining us, Manici at Roma…

Scalvani is injured and Atalanta are a hassle to bargain with, will sell for 50-60M which our management won’t even dream of spending…

  3. Best decision they could make. Kalulu has all the potential to be our starting right back if he can keep himself healthy. Calabria or Florenzi can be backup

  4. We knew he was a good RB 3 seasons ago….with Gabbia, Tomori, Thiaw and Kalulu we are also pretty well covered at CB too…the only reason to sign was to upgrade (Calafiori, Buongiorno) but we are incapable because that involves spending more

  5. Good. We have Kalulu, Terraciano, Calabria in the 1st team and Alex Jimenez waiting in the U23

Unless there’s an outstanding candidate we can sign within our budget, just leave it. Emerson would have been a Royale waste of money.

  6. Duh. This is where Kalulu belongs. The genius Pioli couldn’t figure it out in 3 seasons. It took Fonseca 3 training sessions.

  7. Finally common sense prevails. Get two center backs, a midfielder and a striker. Those were always our needs.
