Mediaset: Milan planning to offer €12m man in Zirkzee talks – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have postponed a big investment in the attacking department until the summer transfer window, a report claims, and Alexis Saelemaekers could play a part in things.

According to what is being reported by SportMediaset (via MilanNews), Milan will spend on a new striker for the future before the 2024-25 season and at the moment the big target is Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

It cannot be ruled out that the two managements will talk about Zirkzee on Saturday during the match between the Rossoneri and the Rossoblù at San Siro.

Given that Olivier Giroud is not expected to renew his contract which expires at the end of the season, the Rossoneri need to sign a high-level replacement and to date the favourite is the Dutchman.

The deal could include Saelemeakers going the other way on a permanent deal, given the winger is on loan at Bologna with an option to buy set at €12m, which could bump down the cash outlay required.

The overall operation for Zirkzee will cost around €40m (including any counterparts involved), but if the 22-year-old were to get back into red hot form after a bit of a drought lately, it cannot be ruled out that the asking price might rise again.

  1. Let’s hope not. Zirkzee is an average player who is having a good season. And that’s about it. Nowhere near the lvl of Giroud and certainly not worth his current pricetag. Milan should and must aim higher.

    1. Unfortunately all strikers have a big price tag (see Arnautovic or the money that Porto wanted for Taremi)

Have my doubts about Zirkzee (he never was consistent for more than a year) but very few strikers would be at the level of Giroud in some areas (experience wise, tactically, etc), though they might surpass him in other attributes (dribbling, speed, endurance, etc)

The only downsize of Giroud is that he’s getting old and any injuries might take months. I don’t think we can guarantee him a starter spot next year, and Giroud doesn’t like being a bench player.

Frankly an attack with Zirkzee, Okafor (and Jovic/Colombo?) doesn’t sound very reassuring, time will tell though… a lot will depend on who the coach would be next season, and how these players would perform for the rest of the season.

  2. Stop with this bogus speculation. Who said Giroud is not expected to renew his contract? I haven’t heard him say anything like that, and I can’t see a good reason why Milan wouldn’t renew their leading goal scorer and assist man for another year.

  3. i don’t think Zirkzee is no9, he’s more like SS, so i hope Pioli wn’t make same mistake just like he did to our latest SS (CDK)

  4. Giroud this, Giroud that, Giroud sucks. He can’t beat his man one on one, he can’t run, he is not clinical, he is the reason Milan lost against Dortmund in the first leg. missed a sitter. It’s time he leaves Milan .
