CorSport: Meeting over Leao’s renewal around NYE – Milan will leverage the player’s will

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a meeting scheduled with Rafael Leao’s entourage to discuss the renewal of his contract, according to a report.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning that the subject of Rafael Leao’s renewal remains absolutely the most talked about in the Rossoneri environment, especially now that the Portuguese player will rejoin the group after the post-World Cup holidays in Qatar.

In the next few weeks, or even in the next few days, developments and new chapters of the saga are expected. The Milan management and Leao’s representatives are planning a meeting that will be immediately before or immediately after the New Year.

This summit will see Maldini and Massara make a new proposal, and their intention is to offer €7m net per season which would make Leao the highest paid player in the entire squad. This would be a significant upgrade for Leao too who would see his current salary quintupled, and yet it is not as simple as that.

The first hurdle is the various stakeholders in the future of the player such as his father, the lawyer Ted Dimvula and agent Jorge Mendes, and then there is the fine owed Sporting CP. Despite this, the club have confidence because they believe in the will of the player.

Maldini and Massara will try to leverage the importance that Milan can still play in the growth of the 23-year-old, pitching the idea that Milan needs Rafa but Rafa also needs Milan, who have always defended him and helped him develop despite the criticisms he faced.
