The latest name to be linked with AC Milan is Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos, who could become a classic ‘opportunity’.

MilanNews began a report by recalling what happened on 6 December 2022. Portugal coach Fernando Santos surprised everyone by leaving Cristiano Ronaldo – the Portuguese captain and footballing icon – on the bench in a World Cup round of 16 match against Switzerland.

The reason? The team had struggled considerably in the group stage, with CR7 often acting out of place. In his place, the coach decided to start Goncalo Ramos, the 21-year-old making his first start for his nation after making just three appearances.

The young Benfica striker’s response was predictable: a historic hat-trick that propelled the Portuguese side into the quarter-finals with a 6-1 victory over the Swiss team. An interesting fact: Rafael Leao also scored. Three and a half years have passed, and now Ramos is linked with Milan.

Offered to Milan

Matteo Moretto confirmed on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that Goncalo Ramos has ended up on Milan’s radar, with agent Jorge Mendes having offered him up.

“Ramos, 24 years old, 41 games this year with PSG, 12 goals: his contract expires in 2028 and he is currently on his way out. He has been offered to both Juventus and especially Milan. We’ll see if there are any evaluations.

“Milan had already considered him in the past, the name of Gonçalo Ramos has already been put forward to the Rossoneri several times, but no further discussions have taken place.”

The price tag remains high, around €40m or more, but Milan could work on a loan with option or obligation to buy. He is a technical striker with speed who attacks space in behind, but he links play well and is surprisingly good in the air. So, he could be a good fit for Allegri and for Serie A.

Rise to prominence

Goncalo Ramos came through Benfica’s academy where he earned the nickname ‘O Feiticeiro (the sorcerer)’. The reason is very simple: the ball was constantly drawn to his feet and then, one way or another, it systematically ended up in the goal.

He arrived in Lisbon at the age of 12 from his hometown team, Olhanense. With the Eagles, he scored a lot at youth level and in 2019 graduated to the second team. He scored 27 goals in 56 games for Benfica B, including 10 in 16 Youth League matches.

His first-team debut came in July 2020 and was a dream: he came on in the 87th minute with the club 2-0 up at home to Desportivo Aves and scored a brace. It was the beginning of a great adventure that will see him wear the Benfica shirt on 106 occasions, scoring 41 goals, winning a league title.

During his years in Lisbon, he received his first call-up to the national team, for the 2022 World Cup. As of today he has scored 10 goals in 24 appearances for the Portuguese team, winning the UEFA Nations League.

In August 2023, Paris Saint-Germain got him on loan and a year later paid €65m to buy him permanently. In two seasons, he has amassed 86 games and 33 goals, winning the league and the Champions League against Inter. He is the latest in a long list of strikers in Milan’s orbit.

  1. My man…interesting choice if we can get him. 40mil should be within reach considering what we spend on deadwood these days.

      1. Management won’t go for Kean because of injury issues. If we do go in for him I doubt he’ll pass whatever bs medical we’ll have him do.

I think we’ll get Vlahovic or some washed up Chelsea player (who might not even fit the system)

Personally I think we should make a move for Brian Brobbey from Sunderland. His holdup play is amazing, his scoring could be better but if we go 343 while keeping Rafa and/or Pulisic he’d just rack up assists.

    1. Completely agree! How refreshing to see attackers take on defenders and not being afraid to use their skill and technical abilities. Italian football is the bore of the world ATM.
We can only dream to see Milan, and the top 6 play fast attacking football.

  2. Sell Nkunku & Gimenez then put whatever we get from them in Osimhen.
loan Lukaku (salary cut) as rotation then get Gila, Grimaldo/ Theo & Goretzka.

Allegri can play 352, 433 or even 343

    1. Lol. Gala won’t sell Osimhen for anything less than 80M. Then he’s making 15M net. That’s WAY out of our league.

  3. trust me this milan management will suprise us all by signing some rising star striker rumoured to be the next who who for 25 mil from some danish\norweigen team or something and expect to compete in the champs league.

the levels shown yesterday are 3 times what we are capable of as milan. we really need to get serious with our signings.

    1. if we have the best 11 Allegri could think of for his system, we will still be the same play style with maybe slightly better results. The game last night was very entertaining but it’s only possible if both teams neglect their defensive duty.

      1. Yes RossoBG

i just dream of the days when Milan was still Milan. With Character, Personality, fire, energy and that Red Devil eye for goal with player like inzaghi etc..

Its not that difficult to get there but the owners must try by all means possible to get Allegri his players. i think that is the final step in this. even the curva sud wont be that mad at playing style if we are atleast winning these games. ticket prices must atleast be worth the win. nobody wants to pay 120 Euros for a bore draw without any goals or attemps on goal.

Give Allegri 5 classy player and we can compete. his style ensures results but we need to get the players.

  4. I hope we can get 2 out of Ramos (24), Sörloth (30) and Vlahovic (26) out of the names rumoured with Milan atm. Ramos paired with Sörloth (or Vlahovic) would be really interesting. If Fullkrug returns to West Ham, and Leao and Nkunku is sold we could go for all three to be paired with Pulisic and Gimenez.

Ramos/Sörloth (1st choice) and Pulisic/Gimenez (2nd choice) and would be 2 deadly forward combinations, each with one player who likes to go deep an attack pockets behind the defensive line, one that likes to link up and recieve the ball on his feets. All 4 work hard defensively too which is needed in todays football.

We would also have two left footed forward to play to the right of the 2 man up top, something we clearly is missing atm when Gimenez doesnt play.

Lewandowski will be too expensive for a 37 year old and its better to build for the future

Moise Kean is a one season wonder and injury prone

Zirkzee is not a 2 man attack forward in a 3-5-2. Hes a false 9/link up player who works best with two speedy wingers that he can put into play. He could work as a replacement to Pulisic at best.
