Massimo Calvelli is the CEO of AC Milan, replacing Giorgio Furlani, and he will have plenty of power at the club.

Indeed, the CEO is one of the most prominent figures at any football club, they are responsible for making decisions and keeping everything moving smoothly. However, Calvelli feels more like an overseer than Furlani ever did.

The mercato seems not to involve him at all – instead being led by the recruitment team and Ruben Amorim – so it seems he will focus strictly on the final stages of deals and then everything else that you’d traditionally imagine.

Calvelli’s role in focus

Now, Calcio e Finanza (via Calciomercato.com) have looked at the ‘documents certifying the obligations and duties’ that he will have.

Firstly, he will have the power to sign off on some, not all, mercato deals. Indeed, anything up to €50 million can be signed off by him, and this will only include the actual fees, not the salaries themselves. For figures surpassing that amount, Paolo Scaroni or Gerry Cardinale will be required.

Then, there is the focus on the stadium – where he has already been named on the board of directors – and he will oversee construction and liaising with institutions.

Furthermore, he will have administrative power to open lines of credit, alongside Stefano Cocirio, for figures between €5m and €20m.
