Messaggero: Lazio hoping to take advantage of contract impasse and sign Milan defender

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is pondering a move for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli who could leave this summer, a report claims.

Romagnoli’s contract will expire in 2022 and Milan are thus facing an important decision: either renew the contract or sell their captain. The latter remains a possible outcome, sparking some rumours, and the 26-year-old doesn’t exactly lack suitors either with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona repeatedly linked.

According to newspaper Il Messaggero (via The Laziale) though, Romagnoli is actually a target for Lazio, who are his boyhood club despite the fact he played for Roma when he was young. The Capitoline club are trying to insert themselves into the running and it is a situation that will need to be monitored in the coming days.

Romagnoli made 22 Serie A appearances last season under coach Stefano Pioli for a total of 1907 minutes, helping to keep seven clean sheets, but lost his spot in the line-up to Fikayo Tomori from January onwards.
