Messaggero: Milan eyeing Benfica star with 22 goal contributions this season

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are planning to invest in a new forward during the summer window but they have also sensed a potential opportunity in Rafa Silva of Benfica, a report claims.

According to what is reported by Il Messaggero (via PianetaMilan), Milan could go for Rafa Silva in the summer but they face a potential transfer battle with Lazio given that he is the preferred target of coach Maurizio Sarri.

Silva arrived at Benfica from Sporting Braga in 2016 for €16m, and he has been watched by the Rossoneri for around a year and a half which means this is far from a new idea.

The 30-year-old plays mostly as a second striker but can play across the entire front line, and he is a big opportunity because his contract runs out at the end of the season and no renewal is imminent.

Silva has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 30 matches across all competitions this season which means that he is a very attractive profile to potentially get on a free transfer.

However, whether Milan want to entrust the future of the attack to him given the obvious factors such as his age and his role remains to be seen.

  1. Rafa would be crazy for us if we can get him he is very talented and the key of benfica for long time and their crazy rude in cl when grimaldo was there . I’ll add Ricardo Horta too if we can get both of them

  2. But why a 30yo? Aren’t these guys trying to make a “statement” signing? Someone talented and for the foreseeable future?

All the targets we’ve been linked to, except for Taremi and this guy have been in mid-low 20’s.
