Junior Messias has revealed some of the background on his move to AC Milan from Crotone including a phone call in the middle of the night.

Messias became Milan’s last signing of the summer transfer window as he joined on a loan with option to buy deal from Crotone, where he played last season and spent his first campaign in Serie A, netting nine goals as they were relegated.

He spoke to reporters who gathered for his unveiling press conference and discussed a number of different topics including his background, how the move came about and the emotions after joining a team like Milan. The 30-year-old gave some background on how he learned about the move, with comments via MilanNews.

“I didn’t sleep. At 2am my agent called to give me the news. Then I spoke to everyone, even Maldini. I was very happy,” he said.

“Being at Milan is the height of life. Every young player would like to play here. I am proud to be here, the sacrifices I made have been rewarded. I am happy to be at Milan, a team with an incredible history.”

When asked what he thinks led Maldini and Massara to pursue him, he added: They studied me, they saw something important, otherwise they wouldn’t have signed me. They know what I can give.”
