Messias realised ‘things had changed’ when he arrived at Milan

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan winger Junior Messias has said that he realised things have really changed for his career when he signed for the Rossoneri after breaking through at Crotone.

Speaking during an interview with 90min Italia (via Milan News), the Brazilian discussed his arrival at the club and the various emotions that he felt.

Messias was a semi-professional player for much of his career before he joined Crotone and helped them get into Serie A. He joined Milan on loan for a season and impressed enough for the Diavolo to pay €4.5 million to sign him permanently. He has since been an important rotation option for Stefano Pioli.

On his arrival at Milanello for the first time, Messias said: “When I saw the Milan coat of arms, I realised I had arrived at the football that counts. I fell in love with the great Milan players. When I arrived here, I met Ibrahimovic, a football legend, and I realised that things had changed.”

Speaking about his unusual route to playing in the Champions League and winning Serie A, the 31-year-old said: “I always say that my story was written with the hand of God. At times I didn’t believe it any more. Instead I started in the Eccellenza and arrived in Serie A.”

When asked how the dressing room changes at different levels of the sport, he said: “It changes a lot because when you play to save yourself or to stay in the league, it’s different from when you play to win. The biggest leap was from Crotone to AC Milan. You go on to play in a top league and play for the Champions League, every child’s dream. There the ambitions changed completely.”

On his first time playing at San Siro: “I remember it was a significant moment: I have a photo where I stop in midfield and look at the stands. I was reminded of Ronaldo, Il Fenomeno. I never thought it could become my home. San Siro is one of the stadiums with an atmosphere unlike any other.”

On winning the Scudetto: “I celebrated a lot the day we won the Scudetto and in fact I couldn’t get on the bus the next day. The thing I thought immediately was that I had written one of the most important pages of my history. The Scudetto, Serie A is one of the best leagues in the world: I’ve done something in my life, I have something to tell my children, my grandchildren. Especially with the Milan shirt.”

  1. Pls Milan should try to sign ritsu Doan at all cost these the players we need is a utility and dangerous player

  2. Messias is a reliable decent player who never disappoint unlike few others whom we relied upon like Brahim & CDK is always poor mentally..I seriously don’t know why some players have one good game and 5 poor ones follows my, Brahim Diaz cannot score goals even with 6 clear chances,I don’t know what milan want with this kinds of football players.. let’s wait & see how the season would end up…. FORZA MILAN

  3. Win champion league this season with AC Milan and you will have fairy tale and great story to tell your children and grandchildren
