CM: Milan heading for €120m summer budget – how it could be spent

AC Milan have been busy in the summer, hiring Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri, and there are already some transfer plans.

As Calciomercato.com report, a lot revolves around Tijjani Reijnders who is in the sights of Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side have not yet offered the €75m that Milan want, but the feeling is that it is only a matter of time, while Reijnders has agreed personal terms too.

The next few days will be decisive, because City want the Dutchman to make his debut for them at the Club World Cup in the USA. Then, the feeling is that the budget will be around €120m for the Rossoneri’s summer window, so Tare and Allegri can get to work.

The targets

The first task would be to try and reinforce a midfield that would lose its best player. Morten Frendrup of Genoa is one name being followed, as is Hans Nicolussi Caviglia of Venezia. The favourite, however, remains Samuele Ricci.

To get him from Torino, a figure of around €30m is needed. There is a sort of pact between the player and the club whereby, should an offer of this kind arrive, he would leave to take a step forward in his career. Milan meanwhile could offer up some counterparts.

Milan will listen to offers for Theo Hernandez, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori to further boost the funds available. In terms of centre-backs, Mario Gila from Lazio is very popular -who Tare knows well – plus Jaka Bijol at Udinese and Giovanni Leoni at Parma.

In terms of replacing Theo, Andrea Cambiaso – Allegri’s former player at Juventus – is held in high regard, but Destiny Udogie at Tottenham is even more popular. He is indispensable for Spurs though, and would leave for no less than €40m.

  1. New milan..best player must leave to raise the fund..
In every season, instead of strengthen the team, milan will be busy in looking for replacement..how frustrating it is for the fans..
Milan now become a feeder club

          1. do you really understand my critic?
The point: milan will never invest on good player.
No good sales no good reinforcement.
Every season, milan will either busy with looking for replacement (like tonalis case) or bring bunch of rubbish players just like last season

          2. @Sam, aren’t Theo, Leao, Maignan, Tonali, Reijnders, Pulisic and even Fofana good players? What is a “good player” and how much do you think should be spent on them? How often do Serie A clubs spend 100, 90, 80, or 70 million on a single player? How about 60 million even? Not often. In fact, those kinds of transfers seem to be exceptions. Sure, we could maybe spend a bit more, like 40-50 on a single player, but does the extra 10-20 millions spent get you that much more? There is a good youtube channel called HITC Sevens that discusses how much money is wasted on transfers, and more often than not, transfers don’t work out. So might as well spend 20-30 on a slightly younger and rawer player and develop them, as Atalanta does, than spend 40-50 (or more) on a perceived ready player only to see them fail and now you’ve lost a load of cash. Better yet, best to promote from the academy and sprinkle in some acquired talent. There are only a handful of clubs in the world that can burn cash and not blink, and we’re not one of them.
            ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          3. It’s not like haalands, mbappes and others are eager to join Milan… Or even Serie A. EPL and La Liga have more appeal (ie. money).

        1. If the owners if this club do not have money to buy players that will bring that the lost glory they should sell the club to serious people,,

        2. No players came? How about Fonfana, Pavlov, Gimenez? Or they don’t count as good because they don’t cost 70 minor more?

  2. CB: Leoni/Coppola, Comuzzo

LB: deCuyper (I would love to have Udogie, but this management spending 40M on defender is insane) and I would also got for Zappacosta (as sub of course) since he’s free agent

CM: Caviglia (Bondo, Adli + Zeroli would complete subs) and Ricci/Rovella

  3. It’s just ironic how we sold Tonali to reinvest in a bunch of new players, and one of them had to be best one in Reijnders. Wonder who we going to sell in about a couple of seasons of those Reijnders sale

    1. Did you know that the bottom PL clubs have more money to spend than the top clubs in Serie A? How do you propose to build a competitive team in Serie A without sales or CL money? Monopoly money? Crytpo schemes? Maybe we should issue a Milan meme coin. Devilcoin. Then people like you can buy it for the cheap price of 10,000 euro per .10 Devilcoin before it goes “TO THE MOON!!!!”.

      1. According to Furlani we didn’t need to sell, but yeah, let’s go profit and never have a competitive or some sense of stability of core players

        1. What profit? The club are now in debt. To fund transfers, they need to make sales. They have spent over €250 million in 2 seasons. What on Earth makes you think they’re motivated by transfer profit? They only way they will make a profit is by raising the profile of the club, by building a new stadium and winning team. Stop being a Ted.

          1. We had invested 35 to 45 million per seasons when comparing incoming transfers to outgoings, while posting profits, this yesr is the only one where we have a 25 million euro deficit. We can go up to 70 with no penalties.
So we can extend Theo even at 8 million.
70- 29. That leaves us 41 million euros for transfers. Ricci can come in without selling anyone. Wages included.

They sell one of Tomori or Thiaw, let Tammy go back to Rome, extend Jovic, the team is smooth sailing financially.

Any other sale can fund more additions if needed.

          2. @Chrisp, Theo isn’t worth 8M per year. Not from us anyway. 5-6M, maybe. 8M would make him one of the highest paid players in the league, and definitely the highest paid player on the team. If he’s that good, why aren’t Europe’s top clubs knocking on our door for such a player that is on his last contract year? So far it’s a Saudi club and PL relegation battler Man U.

        2. It’s not really about “profits” or pluses and minuses. It’s all about proper management and scouting. This is where we have a real deficit. How does Atalanta manage to often finish above us, or very close to us in while having a much lower wage bill and lower transfer budget? Even Bologna, in the last two seasons, has outperformed us relative to wage and transfer budgets. Why? Because they’re well managed. Atalanta sold Hojlund and didn’t bat an eye. Bologna, arguably with a weaker squad that Atalanta sold ALL THREE of their stars last summer, and then managed to basically repeat their best ever season. Even Berlusconi sold Shevchenko and Kaka, because he couldn’t keep up with the Joneses anymore. Selling Reijnders for a club record fee isn’t the problem. Selling Tonali wasn’t the problem. It was replacing them. It’s early days, but I have a good feeling about Tare. Simply appointing a new coach within days is a huge improvement. Without Tare, these clowns would have taken until August to find a new coach, and then would have appointed a mid-table French league or Spanish league coach. Allegri may not be the most exciting, but he’s a known quantity. Now we have a proven DS and coach in place. Let’s see what Tare and Allegri can do with the 75M they’re going to get from Reijnders plus anything else from the others.

    2. But then another Reijnders will come again.
      It happens in football everytime.
      Selling tonali was great business.
      He was overrated.
He only had one good season during the scudetto season thanks to his partner kessie who was a beast that season.
Not to mention his betting scandal.

  4. If Reijnders leaves, Ivan Ilic from Torino is a good, young, left footed midfielder to replace him. Offer 40 mil for him and Ricci, and sign Cavigilia too. We still have a lot of surplus in the budget.

Ilic-Ricci-Fofana as first choice midfield, with Zeroli, Musah/Bondo/Pobega, and Caviglia as subs. Sell two out of the three above, Bennacer, RLC, and Vos to get more money

  5. I will pick Andre Cambiaso to replace Theo ,
Hans Nicolussi and Ricci to replace RLC and Musah.

And i will dream to have Paul Pogba to redeem is career with Milan

  6. Ricci, rovella and Nico Paz for 110!!!! sell musa bennacer and loftus cheek to gain 40 m. and adli fofana and bondo second option and maybe even sell chuk and fofana to get 35 more to get rabiot/ Nicolasci and diao/ gittens and firpo on free not udogie as he is too expensive. Then leoni for tomori and a good rb with the budget left. If we sell rienders we need a complete rebuild

  7. All this mids that are mentioned as replacment are more defensive mids and not attacking like Rejndiers. If we want someone simmilar to Rejndiers who can score goals we should have a look at Jacopo Fazzini, Empoli number 10. The guy is young at 22, Italian, can shoot/pass, two footed, and can run with the ball similar like Rejndiers. His price hasn’t exploded yet so he is more than avaliable, however Bologna scouts are already after him so we might need to act quick if we want to get him. If Bologna gets him he will prob be 30mil next year.

    1. And Empoli just got relegated so I’d definitely go after Fazzini. Doesn’t matter if they play 4231, 3421, 433 this kid plays everywhere.

        1. You don’t even need some budget to sign him, he is valued at 8mil right now. Cheap investment that can prove huge in the future. Low risk with a potential high reward. Hope Tare has noticed him.

          1. And exactly the sort of deal that brought in Krunic and Bennacer to us in the first place, bedrocks of our Scudetto

          2. Brought in Tonali too, if you think about it. We only ended up paying 15 mil for him. Fazzini for Reijnders, Ricci for RLC/Musah/all the deadwood that has been tried next to Fofana. 2025-26 midfield of Ricc-Fofana in the pivot and Fazzini up top or flat three of Fazzini-Ricci-Fofana. Then since Fazzini is only ~10M, why not also sign Nicolussi Caviglia for good measure? He’d also cost around 10M.

            Squad 2025-26

            Mike
            Jimenez-Tomori or Gabbia-Leoni/Coppola-Cuypers
            Fofana-Ricci-Fazzini
            Pulisic-Gimenez-Leao

            Subs:
            Sportiello
            Torriani
            Bartesaghi
            New backup RB
            Pavlovic
            Gabbia or Tomori (whichever sits)
            RLC
            Musah
            Zeroli
            Nicolussi Caviglia
            New backup RW
            New backup LW
            Camarda
            Jovic

Young, more Italian and good enough for top 4.

  8. If we use the Reijnders money wisely and get Ricci, Rabiot and Leoni for them and still have 20 mil to spend I see that as an overal stronger squad.

Rabiot-Ricci-Fofana is a really strong central midfield and Pavlovic-Thiaw-Leoni a really strong 3 man backline

    1. True. Replacing Reijnders isn’t Mission: Impossible as he only scored goals that anyone else would/could have score too. He didn’t create them out of nowhere like Messi or didn’t have an unstoppable shots from the distance. Ordinary goals from chances people should be scoring from anyway. (Not saying that ANYONE could score from those as we have people like Musah on the squad too but still… You don’t need to be a capocannoniere-candidate to take advantage of the chances).

If we can fix the leaky defense and provide a functional midfield with those acquisitions mentioned, we’ll be climbing in the charts for sure.

  9. No serious club sells their star players. None.
Tells you where we are as a club these days.

It was the same storyline when Tonali was sold – to improve the club. What was actually improved? Reijnders and Pulisic were the only two positive signings.

And now Reijnders, one of those positive signings, is being sold to “improve” the club again… Incompetence through and through, and no accountability.

    1. I guess we haven’t been a serious club since 2006, when we sold Shevchenko, second best AC Milan striker of all time. Then we got less serious in 2009 when we sold Kaka. So it seems we haven’t been serious for a while. You should be used to it.

  10. Before complaining about Milan selling players how about fixing the revenue problem affecting all Serie A teams. The broadcasting rights to foreign markets is a joke. With the exception of Juventus, all stadiums are extremely old and do not possess amenities that would allow all teams to enhance game day revenues. Compare team revenues of Serie A teams against La Liga and/or the Premier League to understand the revenue disparity between the leagues. Serie A officials are not being held accountable by the fans to improve the revenue streams required to compete with the best European teams.

  11. isn’t it easier and better to just give Theo the 8m (massage his ego and make it 6+2 or something with bonuses) than spend 40m on Udogie or Cambiaso?

Realistically though, Milan will buy some random for 10m…

  12. Galliani’s team was stronger, go and watch an old Serie A match its free on YouTube.

What could he possibly do with a younger, more fragile Milan?

Allegri’s Milan was known for giving up after conceding, it was like they didn’t even cared.

His last season showed 0 táctics, a broken dressroom, a midtable finish.

    1. LOL. Were you even born in 2013? Go back and look at that squad. With Allegri we finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd in his first three seasons. Then they gave him a banter squad. Milan didn’t return to the CL until 2022! Even Pep couldn’t finish top 4 with the likes of Saponara, Muntari, Constant, Poli, Birsa, Emanuelson. Pensioners Mexes, Essien, Bonera, Zaccardo and Rapey Robinho. The only talent on that squad was Honda, El Shaarawy and maybe Montolivo (who faded hard as his Milan career wore on). Come on!

  13. So again we have to sell (Reindjers) to buy players – didn’t work out so well last few years and I’m not confident it will this time either. Instead we should keep Tiji AND ADD Ricci. But we won’t spend the $$$$$ – as usual.

    Should be an interesting summer.

  14. Milan’s management has to be the most incompetent bunch I’ve ever seen. First of all they hired that idiot Fonseca very late, then sold Tonali (our best midfielder), then made some ridiculous additions of vagrants to the team like (Emerson Royal etc) all the while the fans disagreed with these moves but they didn’t listen. Now no surprise we are not in European competitions so they’re scrambling like crack addicts to recover moneys by any means necessary by guess what? Selling our best midfielder again when we should be building the club around Tijjani. We only have the league to focus on this upcoming season so they’re scrambling should keep our best talents focus on selling the vagrants still plaguing our roster then focus on strengthening the defense. For this season we don’t need depth. We are in two competitions League and Coppa Italia. Top 4 should be our only focus with Allegri gritting out some ugly wins, but wins nonetheless. When we qualify for Europe in the following season then we continue strengthening the team and seek Depth to win trophies. Tare is making the same mistakes his predecessor did last mercato. They need to come out and say Tijjani and Mike are NOT for SALE. End this madness now.
