CorSport: Milan’s 2022 summer window looks negative – only Thiaw gets a pass

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s 2022 summer window has become the subject of a lot of scrutiny as the new additions continue to contribute very little.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Milan last summer window which has been very disappointing so far in terms of returns. Divock Origi arrived to lend a hand to Olivier Giroud but has never really hit his stride due to injury problems.

However, since he arrived on a free and has scored a couple of goals, it makes Charles De Ketelaere look like the real flop. Milan fans are divided between those who still give him time to blossom and those who think the €35m invested has been wated.

Then there are Aster Vranckx, Yacine Adli and Sergino Dest, three players practically never used except at the beginning of the season and not counted on once the Rossoneri have got into the business end of the season.

The only one of the newcomers that has shown his value is Malick Thiaw. His excellent performances with Milan allowed him to be called up for the first time by the German national team, and in the two legs against Spurs in the Champions League he showed that the €5m paid to Schalke could be a bargain.

  1. The real question is, if Pioli goes, who do we replace him with? Former Milan Primavera player De Zebri is doing really well with Brighton but that won’t happen, Sabatini has talked about Massara’s relationship with Luis Enrique, i don’t really have an opinion appointment aside from it seeming like a lateral move instead of going forward, then there’s Antonio Conte, if he leaves Tottenham, but his wages and demands in the transfer market will be a big hurdle for management. It all seems like a mess when you look at it from that perspective.

      1. He would be a good call but doubt he would be interested.
The young guys have had nice papa Pioli to help nurture them. Now they need someone like Capello to give them an almighty Kick up the A*se

      2. Poch? The guy who managed not to win a title with PSG and Neymar, Messi and Mbappe? You have to be great to manage that. No thank you, Pioli isn’t any worse than him.

  2. undoubtably the worst most nonsensical transfer window of all time!!

Time wasted waiting for Maldini and Massara to be renewed.
By the time that happened we were a month behind the other clubs, missed our targets and scrambled around for leftovers.
Saying that Origi was signed up early! Can anyone explain that one to me please?
Some people were dissing me because I was against his signing (apparently he was going to score 20 goals).

Even if we had no money at all, we could have had Dybala for free and Zyech on loan.

Also we signed a 5th right back in Dest, despite having no cover at left back!

    No back up keeper!! WTF?

    No right winger!!

35m on a player from Belgian league!! ( who’ll be ready in 3 years, so dont worry)

No replacement for Frank the Tank.

My joy over winning the scudetto was almost immediately erased by what was happening in summer.
    Fans deserved much much better!

A good team with quality youngsters like we had was only 3 good signings away from being a real top team again (plus a few cheap back up players)

    It’s an utter shambles!
First responsibilty goes to Redturd, Elliot and Gerry.
No need to have the sale take exactly the full transfer window to complete, coincidence, no!

Our beloved club has been passed back and forth by greasy handed vulture funds!

    I want them all gone!

We are back to year zero. It was all for nothing!

    1. This summer, let’s face reality Leao is gone and we are not getting 100m!!
Last year of his contract and his terrible form, we would be lucky to get 50.

Origi we wont be able to get rid of on his wages.

      Rebic is done.
      Zlatan is done.

Giroud is only good as backup at his age.

      Diaz will leave.
      CDK needs 3 years
      Adli will leave
      Pobega will leave
      Messias should leave
      Vranx will leave
      Ballo toure will leave
      Florenzi should leave
      Dest will leave
      Tata is leaving
      Mirante is leaving
      Gabbia will probably want out
      Kjaer will probably leave

So what kind of shambles are we left with?

      We now need
      GK
      LB
      CB x 2
      Midfielder
      AM
      LW x 2
      RW x2
      Striker

      1. The only players worth keeping despite some terrible performances are

        MIKE
        Theo
        Tomori
        Thiaw
        Kalulu
        Calabria
        Alexis
        Tonali
        Bennacer
        Krunic
        Giroud.

How worrying out of a squad of over 30 players this is all thats worth holding on to and some of these are bench players.

So 11 worth keeping and 11 new ones needed.

This wont happen but it’s really disturbing to look at when you break it down.
