AC Milan have accelerated their pursuit of Koni De Winter and they want him to replace Malick Thiaw, reports claim.
Milan and Newcastle have agreed a deal worth €40m including bonuses for Thiaw, who has left the squad in order to fly back to Italy before undergoing a medical, as per reports. This means that the Rossoneri management are looking for a replacement, with several names already linked.

Matteo Moretto reported earlier on Sunday that Pietro Comuzzo seemed to be the name that Igli Tare and co. were going for. However, it seems that Milan have another idea in mind and it is gaining momentum.
‘Keen on the move’
Now, Fabrizio Romano has given the following update: “AC Milan have made contact for Koni De Winter with both player and Genoa side. Genoa want €25m package, AC Milan consider opening bid around €20m plus add-ons. De Winter, keen on AC Milan move.”
Matteo Moretto adds that negotiations are underway for De Winter to join Milan. Genoa value him at around €25m, including bonuses, and the Rossoneri club aims to speed up the process soon and outpace the competition.
In recent hours, Comuzzo’s profile has been reconsidered, but at the moment, the costs of the operation are higher compared to De Winter.

If the italian blooded players are no good, why splash money on them? Leoni only has potential, he is not a champion, have only 17 games of serie a experience, and costs $40 mill? No way. I mean he is maybe 5cm shorter. But weight. Stam was 90-95kg unit, that was as agile as a 70kg defender. That is why he was world class (+ everything else).
He is overpriced but thats the job of the managment to get the price down and get a better deal. Leoni is also 5 years younger than De Winter and yet on the same level. Where was De Winter 5 years ago? So yea higher potential will cost more money. De Witer also failed at Juventus.

Good player but Leoni looks better and can be a long term solution, we should really try for him.
Last time we got Pavlovic instead of Buongiorno to save money, since he was “overpriced” and “not worth 35M”. About the same amounts were in question. It was such a fail. Don’t know this guy but hopefully we don’t get another Pavlovic.
Koni de winter has always been my first choice pick along with Renato Viega who is left footed. Milan should use the money from Thiaw sale and get both players.
Sell Musah and Chukwueze to free up a non Italian spot. Bring in Chiesa and Vlahovic and we are ready for this season.
De Winter isn’t a bad alternative for the price, know the league, starter at Genoa and Belgium NT. Nah, rather him than overspend on Leoni even though he is Italian and there is a potential there

And why did De Winter or Huijsen leave? Same reason as Kerkez or Bellanova, wanted to get play time. In hindsight, worked for all of them.

Man, they didn’t want to sign because Milan doesn’t give chances to young players. Kerkezs father said it publicly, if he got chances he would stay at Milan, at least 5-10 minutes here and there. He didn’t get a minute. Simic got into the team due to injuries and he did good. What happened? He was frozen out, why would he stay? To warm the bench after he showed he can be at least a rotation option? No plan for youngsters at Milan. 0. It is common sense, of course they wanted to leave.
Hujesin was a youngster at 19, so 15mil for him wasn’t bad. It just shows that the potential was always there and Juve needed money.
Yep, and CDK, Kerkez, Locatelli, Paqueta, Darmian and many others weren’t good enough for us, but all somehow managed to have a good career after we discarded them.

Despite what anyone says about “we sold X and bought Y” that’s not really the way the budget will work. Our income will be much less this year, due to not being in Europe, and likely there’s a need to set aside some of the income to cover it.
We’ve taken on quite a few assets on the books with amortisation costs (ie transfer fees) for the next few seasons already. Fortunately, we shed quite a bit of salary at the end of last season and Morata, Florenzi, Abraham moving on will save quite a lot in that regard.
That said, we’ve taken on Modric (on similar money to Leao) and Ricci and Jashari together will cost about 8M and 12M per year with their amortised fee and their wages. Probably cost a bit more with agent fees for year one too. Estupinian probably something similar.
Football fans tend not to appreciate that each year you’re still paying off transfers from previous years. We probably borrowed some of this year’s budget to pay for João Felix, Gimenez and Walker last winter too, gambling that we could get back into Europe and be OK. Big fail there.
