Report: Milan lining up €5m Allegri reunion for out-of-favour Liverpool forward

AC Milan remain interested in signing Federico Chiesa from Liverpool, and are plotting a move in the winter transfer window.

There has been a lot of speculation about Chiesa’s future since the start of the summer mercato, and though he ended up remaining at Liverpool the signs still point towards his current position in the squad being untenable.

The winger was excluded from Liverpool’s Champions League squad, with Rio Ngumoha getting the nod over him. That means he will have to sit on the sidelines and watch during the big European nights, while in the Premier League he seems to have a bit-part role under Arne Slot too.

Milan still interested

According to the latest from MilanLive, Chiesa is not and will not be a key player for Liverpool, which is why he will be ‘pushing harder in January to leave and regain consistency’. He has the 2026 World Cup in mind, more specifically getting a starting spot under Gennaro Gattuso.

Thus, the chance to return to Serie A could appeal, and Milan are planning a €5m low-cost coup to get Chiesa on a permanent transfer. The Rossoneri’s plan is ‘to further strengthen a squad that is already worthy of the Scudetto’.

The report mentions that Chiesa would be linking back up with Massimiliano Allegri, under whom he amassed 16 goals and 14 assists in 86 games at Juventus between 2021 and 2024. The coach appreciates his qualities and ‘wouldn’t mind having him back’.

Milan meanwhile allowed Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze to leave late in the summer. While Chiesa is a natural winger and Allegri is playing a 3-5-2, he could also take up a role in the front two.

  1. He is the last thing we need. I love Chiesa, but attacking midfielders is not something we are lacking unless we are anticipating losing Leao and/or Pulisic.

  2. If we had Europe, I could perhaps understand this. But as you say, we do not lack for attacking mids. And I highly doubt either Leao or Pulisic are going anywhere else—not in a World Cup year.

  3. Good player but what I don’t understand is paying over 30M for Nkunku to get Chiesa in January? It makes no sense. They should have saved 20-25M and just got Chiesa straight up. 2 attacking positions for Leao, Pulisic, Gimenez, Nkunku and even RLC. Where will Chiesa fit in?

    1. 100%. Unless Allegri is actually thinking about going with 4-3-3 and just didn’t like what he saw from Okafor and Chukwueze, so chose to use 3-5-2 to get the most out of the players he wanted to use. But I don’t really believe that, and Chiesa will just add to the competition for two attacking places. He will be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

  4. what a joke of an article, Ngumoha didn’t get the nod over him, he’s on a different list for being home grown.

we play with no wingers and so its probably better to get a natural striker than Chiesa, we already have players who are good on the break

    1. No he is not on the homegrown list. Ngumoha (and Leoni as well) couldnt be included on Liverpool’s B list of young players as they have been at the club for less than two years, so they have to be on the A list.

Even if you are under 21 you need to have been at the club for min 2 years before you can be on the B-list.

Slot chose Ngumoha over Chiesa as he values him higher. So that one got to hurt for Chiesa.

  5. Yes transfer fee 5m euro , but his salary 7m euro nett. What you need now not winger or AMF or SS but striker poacher type similar to dusan vlahovic . Chiesa are not low cost and he needs playing time not sit on the bench just like in liverpool
