GdS: Milan have confidence over €65m+ double summer swoop after laying groundwork

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan tried to set up two negotiations with Lille in the January window and did not get them over the line, but a report claims that the Rossoneri will pick up the phone again in the summer.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that the Milan management know a centre-back and a central midfielder will be needed in the summer and the names at the top of Maldini and Massara’s list are Sven Botman and Renato Sanches.

Yesterday, Milan enquired with their colleagues from Lille about Renato Sanches’ situation and a late attempt was made to try and bring him to Italy before the 19:00 CET deadline today (for around €25m as per Di Marzio), but it was unsuccessful.

Nonetheless, it served as a chance to remind the player of the Rossoneri’s interest in view of the summer window while there are also constant contacts over Botman, who has ended up in the crosshairs of other clubs.

In the last few hours, Borussia Dortmund tried to immediately snatch the Dutchman from Lille, while Newcastle United offered €40m for him and could also try their hand on deadline day. However, there is optimism at Milan who want to leverage the advantage gained in recent months, both with the Ligue 1 club and with the player himself.
