AC Milan have had a dire season, and there is a clear reason why this could be. Unfortunately, there is no chance to change that now.
Having a season like Milan’s is quite embarrassing for everyone involved. Whilst there have been good moments, they have regularly been overturned by frustrating ones. Times when the club have looked to be changing things brought down by swift reminders.
Goals set at the start of the year now look light years away, and next season, it is difficult to tell where the bar will be. No European football, in this sense, can be a blessing and a curse. Will it be a case of replicating Napoli’s successes, or a reminder of why things went wrong?
Time will only tell, and whilst results generally need to be better, the Rossoneri need to improve against the top clubs in the division. This season, Milan have offered a dismal account of themselves against the top eight, only winning two games, against Bologna and Inter, as Milan News recall.
Barring that, it is a sea of red, with the side losing nine of their 16 clashes against the sides residing in the division’s European race. Of course, this is without cup competitions, but having a Supercoppa to show for it does not change the facts.
The Diavolo have had a season beyond poor.
But hey, at least we didn’t lose to Inter once. That’s almost like a scudetto, right? Nope.
Just look at defensive stats. There is no coincidence that every top 8 team – even Viola or Bologna, have more balanced midfield than Milan.
