Di Marzio: Milan aim to ‘lock up’ Ricci despite ‘difficult’ January operation

Samuele Ricci is a player that AC Milan have admired for some time, and the Rossoneri will aim to get him locked up shortly, according to a report.

The midfield is an area that Milan have consistently looked at improving in recent years, which perhaps says something about their efforts, and it seems they have their next major target decided – Ricci of Torino.

There has been a long-standing admiration for the young midfielder, and they are not the only club to take an interest. Manchester City have previously been linked and it is imagined that these links will not disappear until he finds a new club.

However, the Rossoneri want to avoid embarrasment and Gianluca Di Marzio reports that they will attempt to ‘lock up’ the midfielder as soon as possible. Ricci is one of the club’s main targets and this is why the club have decided they want to make the investment.

For this reason, Milan are willing to bet on him, and a January operation could be attempted, though this would be a difficult. A summer operation, therefore, seems more feasible, with Urbano Cairo more likely to sell then, rather than mid-season.

Until then, the Rossoneri will try to block outside interest, attempting to anticipate the interest from elsewhere.

  1. since we really like Chelsea junk, how about Casadei?
he’s younger, cheaper, same quality & a Milanista.
loan w/ otb just like always.

  2. Unfortunately this reminds me of our Buongiorno chase. We tried in Jan, the player “reportedly” keen then when it came to summer we didn’t have the draw or the finances to compete.

Ricci we will try to sign for 25mn, Torino will ask for 40mn, we’ll haggle then Inter or Juve or an EPL side will just come in and out bid us.

Agreed though, he’d be a great addition to our midfield especially if this is likely Bennacer’s last season (and let’s be honest it’s time for RLC to pack his bags)

    1. This ship has sailed. We should have acquired him before he became so expensive. That’s what good scouting is supposed to be: you spot the players with great potential before it is too late to get them. Once he started having great performances for the Azzurri, it was over for us, because we are cheap and will never offer to Torino the full amount that they will request, therefore some other team will snatch him.

While I agree that he’d be a great addition to our team, I don’t even want to get my hopes up, because I know how this will end.

  3. Man City needs a replacement for Rodri, doesn’t it?

It was far too late for Milan to sign Ricci the moment the last summer transfer window closed and Ricci had not been signed.

What do the people who write these articles think, that Cairo is going to do Milan a favour and undercut himself on price?

If Milan wont pay the price, which it wont, it needs to start signing these players before they are established national team players.

  4. They’ve seen the limitations of the €20-25 million policy. I expect a change in philosophy next season. Ricci will be the only high profile signing, unless Theo is sold. Neither Inter or Juve are in a financial position to bid for Ricci and Milan’s need for Italian players is greater.

    1. “I expect a change in philosophy next season. ”

      I admire your optimism but… It’s delusional. 😀 😀 😀
Unless there will be changes in the management, that won’t happen. But then again… Milan missing the UCL boat next year should have an effect on the management as well. WIshful thinking?

        1. Maldini was the one who paid 35M€ for CDK after trying for almost 2 monthes to get him for less than 30M€.
40M€ was Zirkzee’s release clause, they were willing to pay it first but then changed their minds because of the agents’s fees and the fact that they won’t be able to purchase some of the other players if they paid 40M€ for Zirkzee.
With that said, they have to change their philosophies RIGHT NOW, because if we fail to make it to top4, it will be catastrophic for us even in the long term.
