GdS: €300m available and an attack to strengthen – Ajax star a €45m target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a big budget available for the summer window and the management are already planning how to strengthen the attack, a report claims.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) have once again stressed that sources close to Investcorp say that they are ready to invest €300m in the summer mercato if the takeover goes through.

Of course we will have to wait for the change of ownership to understand how much will be spent but the idea is to sign some quality reinforcements for an attack that is struggling this season.

Divock Origi should join on a free transfer from Liverpool and Gianluca Scamacca of Sassuolo remains a target, but the name of Sebastien Haller has jumped to pole in recent days. The Ajax striker has 32 goals this season and would cost around €45m despite being 27 years of age.

In addition to the name of Haller, there is that of another top player who is in the orbit of Milan in Marco Asensio. The main obstacle is that the player wants a pay rise on the current €6m net per season he earns, and now he has Jorge Mendes as an agent talks with Real Madrid over a renewal could resume, so Milan must wait for their chance to pounce.

  1. I will gladly pay Dybala the Ibrahimovic 6m salary instead of going for Asensio .

And Haller should be a NO NO. Having Giroud and Origi an more active and you her striker with different characteristics is needed I will suggest Nkuku. Or better still bring Piatek back he was perfect under Gattuso before Giampaolo ruin the team.

  2. How to spend €300M to instantly improve:

    Isak – €80M
    Scammacca – €30M
    Origi – Free
    Nkuku – €80M
    Berardi – €30M
    Kamara – Free
    Sanches – €25M
    Botman – €30M
    Bremer – €15M + Pobega
    Hickey – €10M + Maldini

Starting XI – Maignan, Calabria, Tomori, Bremer, Hernadez, Tonali, Kamara, Berardi, Nkuku, Leao, Isak

    Back-Ups:
    GK – Tatusuranu, Plizzari
DEF – Kalulu, Botman, Kjaer, Gabbia (or loan), Baldo-Toure, Hickey
MF – Bennacer, Aldi, Sanches, Krunic, Salesmaekers, Diaz, Bakayoko (cancel his loan)
Fwd – Giroud, Scamacca, Lazetic (loan), Columbo (loan), Rebic

    1. Isak isn’t worth 80 lol. Neither is Berardi worth 30 not Nkuku worth 80.

Nkuku is max like 60 Berardi 15 and Isak 40

    2. So we will sign crappy players for 300M? Buy Milinkovic-Savic, Nunez, Botman and I would pick Antony for RW. That is around 200M. Few renewals and a few younger talenta for 2nd/3rd choice. You don’t buy 10 30M players for 300M but 3-4 top players that are instant improvement as Milan already has a good young squad.

    3. TLDR. Sorry just have a lot of time on my hands right now.

Sigh, reading posts like this makes me actually grateful that Maldini is in charge, not you (or me for that matter).

With all due respect, sir. I don’t even know where to begin.

First of all, this is just irresponsible team building. If there’s a silver lining from Li’s era, it should be used as a lesson of not creating a new team with 10 new players. It just doesn’t work like that. Case in point is PSG. They arguably have the best transfer windows EVER, yet they aren’t as good as they SHOULD be.

Secondly, how many players do you want in your team? The list is pure fantasy at best, and economic disaster at worst. We’re gonna be burdened with some dead wages with players we could never sell (something like Bale at Madrid and Samu here). The size of the squad also will inevitably makes players unhappy with rotation. How could you expect Botman and Bremer to sign for us at the same time, without guaranteeing that they would be given sufficient minutes?

Lastly, have you forgotten the number of homegrown players required per squad? You are going to send away Pobega, Maldini, Gabbia and Colombo at the same time.

I apologize if my post seems condescending but I am tired of this fantasy talk with no real thought behind it.

Anyway, how would I build my squad with say, 300M budget compared to yours?

      GK: Maignan, Tata, Mirante. (Plizzari/Tata/Mirante)

As much as I would like Plizzari to be the third choice, I don’t think he would be for various reasons. So, possibly no change for this department.

DF: Calabria, Tomori, Kalulu, Theo, Kjaer, Gabbia Florenzi, Ballo-Toure. (+Botman/Bremer)

With Romagnoli out and possibly Ballo Toure too, it opens up a slot for either Botman or Bremer. Bremer would’ve been fantastic since he blossomed in Serie-A, hence no need for adjustment. He manhandled Vlahovic a couple of times too, so the quality is proven. However, I think the management has already decided for Botman, so we’ll go with Botman. I don’t mind Ballo-Toure to stay, as we can’t afford to have 20M rated defender on reserves if we’re getting Hickey.

MF: Tonali, Bennacer, Krunic. (+Pobega, Adli)

Kessie and Bakayoko would be released, and to be honest, we need 1 more profile, but I am still undecided on who is top of my wishlist lol.

FW: Giroud, Leao, Rebic, Saelemakers (+Berardi, Origi, Scamacca).

Now this is the area which need the most attention. Ibra might be retiring, and if we’re to upgrade the RW position, then it simply means we’re not going to purchase Messias. Getting rid of Samu is gonna be a challenge, but maybe new ownership might be willing to strike a mutual termination deal with him. Nothing against Diaz but he’s a loanee and repeatedly wanting to go back to Madrid, so let’s just release him early OR, keep the loan while deciding if we’re switching formation to 4-3-3 which render his position moot or will still need another #10.

For RW and FW upgrade, I’d take the Sassuolo duo. They already have the chemistry and it is easier to implement them instead of buying whole new set of attacking players who doesn’t know each other yet. Keep the cash and reassess the next season. Origi should be a more than capable back up.

Only need to buy LW if we decided to part ways with Rebic/Leao (or if Leao keeps delaying contract extention).

Even with this, we’ll be welcoming quite a lot of new players:

Botman, Pobega, Adli, Origi, Berardi, Scamacca.

That’s like HALF of the starting 11 already, although yeah, possibly Pobega, Adli and Origi would have to fight for their spots.

Sorry for the long TLDR post.

  3. I think it’s time SempreMilan took a stronger and more influential role in the milan world than translating and collecting news. Haller is not good man! I don’t think anyone anywhere, including SempreMilan writers, thinks this guy is “it” for us (at best, he’s a worse Giroud). So why not take an active role in critiquing crap news like this (especially now that every player under the sun will be linked to us) instead of just presenting it as is? I think you guys will become the de facto milan news source worldwide as the club goes back to what it was. Your critical analysis will eventually have enough weight to influence decisions at the club level, it’s time to start right now.

  4. INS…
Nkuku, Dybala, Darwin Nunez, Bremer, kamara, sergej milikovic savic, Beradi, Asensio(Zanialo), Botman. If Ibra retires then either of Origi of Belotti.

    OUTS….
Messias, Krunic, Brahim, castellejo, saleamakers, romanogli, ballo toure, bakayoko, Mirante.

    LOANS….
    Maldini, Lazectic, Colombo.

  5. I forgot

    Other considerations….
Noa lang, de Ketelaere, Anthony, Scamacca, Raspadori, Rudiger, Gabriel Jesus, Bernado silva, Ziyech, Jorginho, Bergwin, Golini.

  6. We don’t need too much player . Remember in Chinese era we buy 11 player total cost 220m euro . We just need 4-5 player like :
AMF : Christoph nkunku 40-60m euro cost
RW : Antony 40-50m euro cost
CB : Botman 30m euro cost
    Origi : Free transfer
We Will buy more player if Ibra leave, Rebic or leao leave in summer. If Ibra leave i hope they sign Darwin Nunez cost 70m euro but salary lower than Ibra. If rebic or leao leave maybe they can sign Dominik szobolai or noa Lang cost 30m euro. Of course we still need to sell some player to get fund like castilejo, caldara,Duarte, hauge. Return all loan player like Bakayoko, junior messias,Florenzi. I would like to see pobega growth with AC Milan too in double pivot compete with tonali, bennacer, adili and krunic

  7. CF: Scamacca
    RW: Nkunku, Asensio or Berardi
    LW: Gareth Bale
    AMF: Dybala
LB: Signed Geno LB (forget the name😂)
    CN: Botman
    Salary Cap should increase
