AC Milan are almost certainly going to be in the Supercoppa Italiana next season despite not being able to win Serie A or the Coppa Italia this season.
These days, the Supercoppa sees four teams compete in a mini-tournament rather than just the Serie A winners and the Coppa Italia winners. It is already certain that Inter will be there thanks to their league win, and Juventus and Atalanta as they will compete in the Coppa Italia final later this season.
Milan currently sit second in Serie A but could still be in the final four even if they drop down to third place before the season is over.
Now that four teams qualify, it is supposed to be the Serie A winners, the Coppa Italia winners, and the runners-up of both tournaments.
If Milan drop down to third in Serie A, it will almost certainly be Juventus who finish second. Given they are already sure of a place through the Coppa Italia, it drops to third in Serie A to take part in the Supercoppa Italiana along with Inter, Juventus and Atalanta.
At this point, Milan will only miss out if they manage to drop behind both Juventus and another team, which would be Bologna.
