Mediaset: Milan have €10m alternative in mind as Botman pursuit becomes tough

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan may miss out on Sven Botman but their strategy for the defensive department will not change, according to a report.

SportMediaset (via MilanNews) report that Milan have been pursuing Botman as their number one target for some time, but in recent days the track seems to have cooled down a bit because of the competition from Newcastle United and the high asking price of Lille.

The Rossoneri have not yet given up but the difficulties have forced them to probe other ideas, though what must be mentioned is that the management will still sign a new player and it will be a similarly young profile.

The name of Malick Thiaw of Schalke 04 has re-emerged against as a potential alternative to the Dutchman and he has already been linked given Milan pursued him in January.

It would be an operation worth around €10m, with the Germany U21 international currently preparing for a season back in the Bundesliga after Schalke’s promotion.

  1. That would be a great signing. Because Tomori – Kalulu is the perfect defense. No need Bremer or Botman, they’re too expensive. Save money for a RW. With Thiaw, Kjaer and another young player, we will be ok.

  2. Instead of spending 10M plus his contract on whoever the hell Malick Thiaw is, I’d rather renew Romagnoli, tbh.

  3. Romagnoli is slow.
This kid is young and fast and can learn under Maldini and Kjaer. I like this option too if we can’t get Botman or Bremer.

Spend more money on RW and/or CAM. Go after Dybala (who can play both RW and CAM) which are our 2 weakest positions. Upgrade there first and foremost!
